For me, animations are essential to really enjoy a game.
True animations, not bad frame-by-frame stuff...
For example, I really like Grandma's House, but I get bored after a while because there is no animation

it really depends on the animation, some animations are so bad I'd rather there wasn't.
Played Desert Stalker recently, and I found the animations to be great!

depends on the game and the animations and also quality but I will say yes, animation will mostly improve many games. Many people are "visual" which means we get pleasure from seeing more than just words ect...

I can do without them. To me it does nothing for the story. I get why they use them but I don't need them to enjoy the story.

If I find the game really enjoyable animation is not essential, but I do find games that have decent animation much more fun to play.

If the animations are smooth then they definitely improve the game but if they are bad they just ruin it in my opinion at least..

yes, if the animations are actually good, but when they're bad, they kinda make the experience worse.

I love animations if they are good. And if I can skip them.

Everything enhances a story, and builds upon it.
Good foundation, and whatever will make it better.

its easy if its good animation then yes, if its bad then stick to pics.

Average to great animations definitely improve the game, as long as they aren't to short.
Sadly sometimes the animation is basically just a slideshow of images with a terrible framerate.

I find that most games (but not all) that include animations, improve the gameplay and consequently the desire to remain with that game, looking forward to each update.
Looking for the "animations" tag in the genre, is one of my go-to seeks for any new game. Thumbs up to those dev's who include them.
Definitely
When I see a game that doesn't have the "Animated" tag, I don't even see it as an option to play
Animated + Male MC are my 2 main tags

If the game itself is good in all other respects, it could have the graphics of an Atari, and I wouldn't care.

good animations do, like good framing, good posing, good models, good lightning, and so on

If they're not awkward or poorly done, most games of this type benefit from animations greatly.

I do Like animations in games.
Big Brother However never did and I loved it.
Some games go a little overboard with them.
Don't need to see some one walk down the hall... all the time
Some animations are becoming Very Good and Really help a story.
And Help Finish...

Depends on the engine and the effort put in. For me animated stills sometimes look way better then some fully animated games just cause of the care put into said games.

Yes. I stopped looking for descent writing in these games a very long time ago. Just set up the scenes, animate them & stop looking for excuses to do less. Endless text does not a good game make.

if the animations take so long to load they take you out of the game then no
