Too subjective, but even so, and being as objective as I can, I can only say it's good, not the best.
I could say that My New Family is one of the best; nowadays it would only be considered good, but if you think about the time it was made, when there really wasn't much variety, it was truly one of the best. It was one of the few that directly addressed themes of incest, "lolis," pregnancy, and other aspects. At the time, it was rare to see, not that unusual, but not all shows had that and a solid, interesting story behind them. Again, speaking from the perspective of the time in which it was made.
The same goes for Harem Hotel. Yes, it shows its age, but it still maintains a good level of quality, and the story is quite good.
SPOILER
Especially the rooftop scene where the MC is kidnapped by Jia, when all the girls appear, breaking down the door, and only their irises light up—it's pure cinema.
Even if we're talking about production value, SummerTime Saga is the biggest contender because of everything DarkCookie has done. It's the closest thing to an AA production of porn games. Much can be said about them, but the complaints are usually about something they needed to do and now they are replacing the content; they could go faster, yes, but all the work they have done was quickly ignored.
We could move away from AVN games and go to other games like an RPG Maker RPG, and without a doubt one of the best is Renryuu Ascension. Unfortunately, many abandon it because they misunderstand the beginning. It starts with a sex scene, and many assume it will be just another run-of-the-mill, simplistic game, when in fact it's a solid RPG experience.
We must also consider the games+; for me, two of the best current games are both from Director Games: Crimes of Slaves and Little Green Hills are excellent. I miss you Ketzal :c
In general, choosing a game as "best" could only be done across different categories. And even then, Being a DIK isn't the best in its category.
I find it interesting that none of my top 5 characters are your top 5 characters, other than that I agree with most of what you said. If I play it more/again you've convinced me to turn the music on, I usually play games with music off, so I can "watch" another show or listen to my own musicSandbox? Grinding? In BaDIK? If you're talking about the cash, you can find more than enough to do stuff if you play without minigames and besides that, cash isn't even important in this game (except maybe for the presents in episode 11. I really can't think of anything that comes even close to grinding, and there isn't a sandbox aspect at all.
For me it's up there somewhere in the top 15-20 range. I like the freeroams (especially season 2 onwards when we finally get the "fast travel", and most of the FI's are likeable. The things it has against it however really bring it down for me to not put it in the top 10:
Pros:
+ Enjoyable freeroam later on in the franchise
+ Lots of "mysteries" so far to theorize about
+ Possibly the best soundtrack in an AVN so far, I'm amazed no other game has come even close to the quality even after so many years
+ Many and extremely hot sex scenes
+ Overall good looking models
Cons:
- I don't like that the "main 5" girls all have oversized breasts.
- So far extremely bad story (and yes I'm including season 3)
- The few plotpoints that have been resolved, were resolved in a copout way
- It uses too many cliches for its twists
For a reader/player like me who usually puts more importance into the story and character progression rather than the sex in his AVNs, this game really should be put lower on the list. The soundtrack and some of the girls (Riona, Tara, Sally, KRJ and Sage) save it for me to not be placed worse than top 20.
Good point, if harem was an option in Being a Dik, it would be elevated morei enjoyed the game but i like harem games so never got attached to being a dik
Yeah, I can relate to this.i enjoyed the game but i like harem games so never got attached to being a dik
That's why it's my most played game as I played focusing on all the main LI's, then one run without focusing on any of them and another run focused on Lily lol. Mind you that was before I discovered this site...I like the game a lot, however the only downside I have with it is that you have to make multiple saves to see all content in the game rather than getting all routes in one playthrough.
I just wish there was a thing where you can do all routes in one playthrough something like WVM which i would say is similar to Being a DIK but you choose which routes you want to enable as you play you don't have to save and reload to do a different route. That's why it's my most played game as I played focusing on all the main LI's, then one run without focusing on any of them and another run focused on Lily lol. It WAS until the dev became an extreme contrarian and did exactly the opposite of what people asked... And before that went very long with no updates.I just wish there was a thing where you can do all routes in one playthrough something like WVM which i would say is similar to Being a DIK but you choose which routes you want to enable as you play you don't have to save and reload to do a different route.
Idk if you ever played it but WVM is actually pretty good as well.
The other ones are better. They don't have the Nintendo-hard free roams.I've never seen a "dude goes off to college and bangs all the chicks" game that was worth playing. The theme is worn out and the execution is usually garbage. I've never tried being a DIK.
I'm not familiar with the WVM acronym, but I could also be half brain dead. Could you please spell it out for me?I just wish there was a thing where you can do all routes in one playthrough something like WVM which i would say is similar to Being a DIK but you choose which routes you want to enable as you play you don't have to save and reload to do a different route.

VN - Ren'Py - DAZ - WVM [S2 Ch. 1 Ep. 13 F] [Braindrop]I'm not familiar with the WVM acronym, but I could also be half brain dead. Could you please spell it out for me?
Oh a link, even better thank you! So the game name is just an acronym...I've actually looked at this at some point, but I'm allergic to sports, so I probably didn't look too closely. I appreciate the recommendation though!
Luckily for you actual basketball is less than 1 % of the story. For a game where the guy is accepted to a college thanks to his basketball skills, you would expect to see much more of itOh a link, even better thank you! 1 playthrough up to and including episode 11 (which alone took me about 4-5 hours for 1 route) will probably take at least 25 hours, especially if you play with minigames on. There are however many MANY deviations based on what choices that seem not that important. If you want to see everything possible (including getting ready for episode 12), I think you can easily be playing it for about 120 hours. I'm 144 hours in for season 1 and 2 (I must mention though that I restarted the game once when I downloaded season 3 just to see what it was about again), and probably abour 50-60 hours in season 3 and I still haven't gotten every single dialogue.Haven't played, wondering how long a run through of the game takes tho.
