Automatic translator for Ren'Py

It's cool, really, but I would say Ren'py is something that is used almost exclusively by western developers, and these games always have english version. I think I can't recall a single untranslated ren'py game. Now, if it would be about RPGM engines, that would be insane. Still, congratulations, I bet it wasn't easy.

It’s uncomfortable for me to read games in English, even though I understand it. I believe there are quite a few users like me. But you’re right almost all Ren’Py games are written in English, and most people here know the language. As for adding support for other engines, that’s an interesting and quite achievable idea. I’ll think about it.

Oh fuck, you are right, I totally forgot someone may want to translate the game from english into their native language. I got so accustomed to do anything I can in english that I forgot my own language exists for a moment there.

Cool program! Is it available for mobile users (android and iOS) or it's just for PC users?

Currently only for Windows

Oh... okay then, gonna wait till it's available for mobile, but alas great job for creating the "renpy ultimate v2.0 MTL". Hope that I can try it in the future

Merci test en cours.
Même un nul comme moi le fait fonctionner !! lol

Thanks, testing in progress.

Even a dummy like me can make it work! lol

Après recherches j'ai trouvé;.
Il y a beaucoup de ligne rpy non traduites.
Sinon simple à utiliser
Merci au moddeur.

After searching, I found it.
There are many untranslated rpy lines.
Otherwise, it's easy to use.
Thanks to the modder.

EDIT : est-il possible d'envisager :
- un menu "pause" qui permettrait de garder en mémoire ce qui a été fait ?
- d'étendre la lecture en rpa ?
Merci

EDIT: Would it be possible to consider:
- a ‘ break’ menu that would allow you to save what you have done?
- extending playback in RPA?
Thank you.

- In some games, not all of the text gets translated. This is because I use regex to select files that contain text, but an AST parser for the actual text extraction. Regex can make mistakes and miss some text files. I had to make this compromise to speed up the process.
- Regarding the pause function: you can simply cancel the translation process. Already translated text is automatically saved to the cache. When you restart the translation for the same game, the translated strings are retrieved from the cache without making new requests to the translator service.
- As for your question about RPA, I honestly didn't understand what you were referring to. Could you please rephrase the question?

Thank you for your reply.

You have chosen speed over accuracy, that is your choice and I respect it, but perhaps an update could be... ? lol
RPA files are used in games such as Sunshine Love and Dating My Daughter, for example. This means they have to be decompiled – with the risk of errors – before they can be translated.
There is a .bat file for this called ‘UnRen’ =>
I'm not a developer, just a basic player, so I have ideas but no means of implementing them.

Thank you for your attention.

Deepl traduction Sorry for my poor English.

The program already works correctly with RPA, RPY, and RPYC files. I wasn't entirely accurate in my previous answer. I have code that is supposed to distinguish media files and code-only files from files that contain actual text. I suspect that the game's incomplete translation is caused precisely by an error at this stage (the file filtering). Unfortunately, it is impossible to process every single file type using the current AST parser. In my tests, the program worked correctly on 20 out of 20 games. However, since Ren'Py games can have very different structures, I cannot guarantee 100% compatibility.
If the program systematically works incorrectly with multiple games, please let me know, and I will try to fix it.

Hello
I tried to use the software on "DMD Ch 4" / game - RPA files
I'm getting this message
How can I get around this problem?

Thanks

EDIT : Hello. If I interrupt the translation when I resume it, it starts again from the beginning without using a save file.

1. It's a bug, I'll fix it over the weekend
2. Try running the program as an administrator

MTool is great for one-button full translations in rpgmaker, wolfrpg, tyrano and bunch of others. Apparently even ren'py, though I haven't tried it for that. The free version just uses Bing to translate so it's usually pretty shitty and only works on text so image UI elements will usually remain untranslated. Still, it's made a lot of otherwise unplayable games playable for me.

Haven't tried the paid versions that use gpt 3.5, deepseek or sugoi but I assume they translate better. Honestly, even if the game is in English already I'll still open any rpgmaker game in MTool just for its cheats, variable editing and debug features.

Yeah, I prefer using Sugoi, also works great with era games.
