Games with good stories are gems. I would never skip the story in that kind of games.

I'm definitely heavy on the Ctrl key for sure. But whenever a game comes along that makes me pause, read what I see, back up, read more, and then start the story again for real -- that's a truly special game. I love those. I would say that happens maybe 10-20% of the time. But to be honest, my default is "skip ahead unless something flies by that catches my eye and makes me pause and go back."

I usually start reading. A lot of games have shit writing tho, and it isn't really why I'm there, so in that case I'll speed. But some are pretty well written and deserve a read.
I usually skip through a lot of dialogue in sex scenes tho, I don't need to read who a penis throbingly throbed.

I read, but if it's too much yakking, ESPECIALLY internal dialogue I skip. That shit is boring. I wouldn't be playing this if I was looking for literature...

Speeder pretty much all the time, rare cases reader.

I always start out reading, but as soon as the writing gets bad/annoying/too faulty/etc I speed up. In fem-protag games I speed through a lot more as I don't identify with the character and just enjoy the progressive sluttification curve until its zenith unless it's actually interesting/humorous.
Spoiling parts like dream sequences that show you exactly how that one character is going to look naked hours before getting there kind of ruins the element of surprise for me. A dream sequence with sharp renders and precise details is not exactly a good illustration of the deliriously vague experience of a dream. Those parts I skip like the devil, looking away in disappointed anger about the fact the author doesn't even seem to realize the damage it does to the anticipation aspect.

I think it depends on the kind of game you're playing and how far you're into it. If it's a well established game like Grandma's House where the story doesn't really matter and you know the MC is just going to fuck another one of the established characters, I'm speedrunning to get to that scene. But if it's a game where I feel the story and writing are actually compelling, I am willing to read it. Also sometimes you can be willing to read and then get bored and transition into a speeder.

The "N" is for "novel", so I read it - that's a big part of it. If all I want is fap material I'll just look for a video on whatever topic grabs me on a given day.

Kind of disrespectful of the Dev to NOT read the story. Granted, some of them are much better than others, but that's a different topic.

First time through Ren'Py projects is usually on auto set to maximum speed because I'm mainly interested in the graphics, and a picture is worth a thousand words as they say. Doing that gives me a general idea of whether or not the text is worth the time to read it, and if that happens it's usually long before I reach the last frame on auto.
