when did you really feel welcomed here?

Day one.

Literally minutes after my first post. @goons was the first person to welcome me but very quickly there was a flood of welcoming messages, including a personal message from @Heisenberg after I responded to the automatic message (I thanked him for the courtesy of the automatic welcome message and within minutes I received a DM that wasn't pre-written). Then, of course, @Slumdum and his welcome to the thread and @sand being wonderfully hilarious and beautiful and @Evil Surgeon having fun and being hilarious and amazing.. and those are just the first things I experienced to feel welcome.

Every single person I met just made me feel more and more at home.

This site is filled with beautiful people.

(..all of that on top of what you already know, Kitten. You're a massive part of that too, you know that. <3)

I am not sure?.. I eh... haven't been here for a long time. It does seem very welcoming though, I'd say, for sure. Slum's cell was comfy. Not that I stayed there for a long - time traveling business you see.

Well the username is their email address with what looks like a full real name so they doxxed themselves. I looked again and they made their account in 2022 so its probably a bit late now anyway and they obviously don't care Originally I thought they were just new and made a mistake.

I didn't actually start talking in the Lurker Hideout until the start of the month. I actually think you were here the first time I did. I had poked my head in a few times before then but always got scared and ran away.

Are you @Evil Surgeon in disguise then?

Then a couple of you wrote me DMs, with tips of how to make AI pics (@mime and @StephanieD) or just talking or showing me some interesting pics.

I ate a lot of eggs. Only today I ate three for breakfast, FYI. And rabbit is delicious, too.

Not into hard boiled eggs, but we used to raise rabbits and eat them frequently. Haven't had it in years, though - tends to be expensive in the grocery store and I haven't been out hunting in a very long time.

I'm so jealous. In the USA you have so many spicy sauces. Maybe because of your proximity to Mexico?

It probably tends to be more from the variety of people that have settled here over the centuries, and that we also have several environments where chilis grow well - they were used in Native American cuisine (North, Central and South) well before Europeans got to his side of the world.

While being in Texas does mean proximity to Mexico, the spicier sauces I make tend to have more Asian influence - Thai, Szechwan, Vietnamese - while the spicy foods are from all over. My Cajun style gumbo will heat you up pretty good if I let it get out of hand, my Texas Red chili might hurt you on both ends if I don't temper it a bit, and my takes on Thai/Indian fusion curries could leave you panting for relief.

I think it really boils down to exposure to more than just your local environment - if you grew up in a more isolated part of the world that didn't naturally cultivate chilis (Ohio for example ) you might think a jalepeno is an extremely hot pepper when you taste it; if you grew up where I did you'll go "that's nice - now pass the habanero sauce".

And before you get the wrong idea: no, not everything I cook or eat is spicy, though a little chili flake usually makes it into most of my sauces and if there's a green looking pepper in my aromatics, it's going to be a poblano, not a bell. So long as you aren't allergic, a little capcaisin in your diet can have health benefits, so introducing chilis at a level that doesn't hurt you too badly can be good thing.
