Please, please, do yourself a BIG favour: dont't take hollywod (lowercase intended) as a history teacher. That show has nothing, absolutely nothing of historic accuracy (and that goes with anything not US related). It's just trope after trope used as an excuse to show some flesh.

Yeah, but you're talking about 1966 Batman.. and it wasn't really meant to be taken seriously. Me as a kid in the 80s watching the reruns.. I fucking loved it.
