Yeah, I remember getting yelled at for spending too much time reading a guide at an Electronics Boutique without buying. I still have a few lying around my attic. The Brady Games ones usually had a bunch of bad info.
Infocom games had good ones. EA were usually decent but in the form of a story. Then I got the Quest for Clues (1st one) which had for several games I had and a lot I didn't. And ones I couldn't get as they weren't made for Commodore 64. In the intro it talked about different things including how Zork HAD to be 3 different games, because if all in 1 would be 1 MEGABYTE in size which was absurd. Little did they know... Note the Infocom games were all text - no graphics.
