Anime's not bad...it's my one of my favorites (top in Isekai), but it's an acquired taste...
as for your question, it IS better than the anime in some regard....give it a try...have fun...!!

The v0.2.3c Hotfix is out on Itch. It's a bugfix of v0.2.3 that adds a toggle for the problematic screen blur in the RPG battle space. There are still a massive pile of graphical issues with the RPG side of the game, and it seems to be worse for Linux users. There are also recursive fails in the Labrinth due to too many conditons and moddifiers colliding with each other. The major trigger for this is maxing out Darkness' skill tree. Having maxedout Darkness in your party while facing any Overseer will nuke the game. Running into a maxedout Darkness Doppleganger will nuke the game faster.
Solution: Stay ot of the Labrinth. You can work the counter at the guild to rack up goodboy points. However, PastryIRL pulled a boner. The "Days until Jailed" is built like a clock and caps at 99. You can actually fuck it all up by being too workaholic and rolle the clock back to day zero. You are warned.
No idea on new content, haven't gotten that far yet. Everying else in the game (The Porn) works just fine.

The sandbox isn't really bad on this one. It's worth a try if you find the characters appealing.

the game can be grindy at times but i didn't find it that bad, the combat in on itself is essentially a copy of Octopath Traveler, but i still found it fairly fun and there is definitely strategy to it, the characters i'd say are written to be faithful to their original counterparts (save for some h scenes...) and i liked reading the dialogue a lot. For a Koikatsu Vn i'd definitely recommend it.

ironically, i think the weakest part are the H scenes themselves.
