Update: they can’t fix my old laptop because there are no more spare parts. I can still use it, but the speakers are dead. No sound without earphones. So now I have to play with earphones all the time.

That got me thinking… can I just move the HDD from my old laptop to the new one? The thing holding me back is that the old HDD might fail, and buying a new one for the new laptop is crazy expensive. It’s almost 20% of the laptop’s price.

Please, tech bros… I need your wisdom.

Definitely just get a hdd enclosure and make it into an external transfer everything off of it onto the new laptop that you wanted and can keep it around as an external after if you want to just have a bit more storage. You can also use crystaldiskinfo to check the health of the drive to see if it has any chances of failing soon.

There are also universal data and power sets that can be less than a dedicated enclosure, if you don't intend to use/reuse the enclosure after transferring.

A 512 GB SSD is great. My old laptop only has a 100 GB SSD + 1 TB HDD. Do you even need an HDD with that much SSD?

On another topic, what tablet brand do you recommend for mid‑range specs and a mid‑range budget? I hate Apple’s forced account sign‑ins and limited app installs, so I’m leaning toward Samsung or Lenovo. But I’ve heard Samsung also forces you to create an account or else you can’t fully factory reset. What’s the real deal?

FYI, I want to use the tablet for schoolwork, since it’s much more practical for reading e‑books or PDFs while lying in bed.

Guys, virtually all modern ASUS laptops only support SSDs, not HDDs. Some models have expansion slots, allowing you to install two SSDs.

That said, which setup is better:
1) 512 GB SSD
2) 1 TB SSD
3) 512 GB SSD + 1 TB SSD
4) 1 TB SSD + 1 TB SSD

A 1 TB SSD costs roughly $200 USD here.

Why is there a feature on the slot machine to take away your credits? I had 6 credits and only got to use it twice when a fucking bomb came on and took away the REST of my credits. What kind of video game bullshit is this? Why is that even an option? When that is the only thing you can use when you have single digit credits and you can just get fucked like that, what is even the point? I don't want to have to continually post in these threads just to access Games+, considering not long ago I was able to view that section for free! I'm a lurker, not a chatter.

Unless you're like really, really lucky though, then none of this applies! Gamble wildly! Let it ride! It'll all even out in the wash.

i am late to the party here but yes......... many new models do not enjoy having hdd any more....... you may try and get an external hdd one of such you can plug in to your laptop from the usb port........ they are not too expensive....... their life time is typically less than an internal hdd but that is my own opinion i am un sure if such a thing is backed by hard-evidence your old laptop is a ticking time-bomb in my opinion........... truly i am surprised that it has lasted so long already!

many laptops do not have such a life span. what you may do is one of follows: a hdd enclosure that is fitting in dimension of your old current internal drive...... you connect in the cables in to the board of the enclosure then ofcourse connect in the old-drive in to the new laptop using the usb-cable...... you may get empty enclosure if you so wish..... but it depends on drive dimensions and such.........

a better option in my opinion is as follows: you may buy a new external hdd with as much storage space as you may need..... connect such into your old laptop...... transfer//back-up all the files you need from there....... and pray to the gods that the drive does not die in the process then you connect the new device with the old files in to the new laptop and ofcourse copy them over......... this would alleviate your concerns of the old drive failing....... you may use it for something else or dispose of it at such a point....... it is up to you...... i have not done a back-up on a windows machine in a very long time but i remember it being a very simple process to enact.

laptops are not known for such upgrade-ability or modification-capability in any such respect....... first and foremost not compared to a desktop computer. it is ofcourse up to you what you want to do and what is best fitting for your use case....... if you can not put a hdd inside of your laptop then you may just store files on your external device if you decide to get such.

an edit...... as for better: more storage is always of course the better....... but not so much better for your finances

Unless you need shit to load fast just go for the 512GB at most a single 1TB SSD and get an external HDD for everything else.

it's been locked behind a paywall that isn't really a paywall for a while and it's like that for a reason, in-fact it's easier to get now than it was before, I got it when it was like 750 AC to get it so it's now 3 times easier to obtain, hell I've seen some people get it within days of being on the site.
