Tbf as a young girl I watched Sailor Moon, Cardcaptor Sakura and Pokemon I just didn't realise they weren't cartoons, so that's kinda what I mean :3
Anime = Cartoons, it is literally the definition animated stuff. People keep trying to give anime a definition about being japan thing but in truth it stop being a purely japan thing when they started outsourcing a lot of it. Still people will debate about semantics so I will die on this hills...ANIME IS CARTOONS!!!

Words are just terms we use to communicate ideas, so even if cartoons = animation and anime = animation, there is still a contextual understanding of what we all think of when we say the terms :) At least that's how I think of it
After school animes were great.
Ranma, Cardcapture Sakura, Pokemon, Digimon, Beyblade, Sailor Moon, Captain Tsubasa, Dragon Ball and many more. This was a great time.
Ooo I recently started watching Ranma 1/2 and Dragon Ball and they're really good :) Defi missed them cause of my age so having fun going back and watching them

Old memories unlocked. We also had a rather strange guy with ADHD, that was on heavy medication, that really enjoyed drawing and reading mangas. He bothered no one, but still was the target of mocking. Instead of being problematic he instead coped with his little rituals, reading, drawing, daydreaming, making notes in his death note.
Someone recognized the reference to the death note and called the teacher. The school was evacuated.

Teachers can be also scumbags.

I hope Charly is doing great.
i hear that, the number of teachers i had that were clearly drunk on the power to boss around a bunch of literal children. also just never doing anything about bullying until it became too much of a pain to ignore and then punishing the victim 🙃

i'm with you. blue = sapphire = azure but each word communicates a slightly different idea which can be understood in context

Have fun watching. Ranma 1/2 is such a a cute and silly story.

That's how it felt for me, too.

I no longer watch anime...more on manga and manwha since moving pictures are too slow for me....
Also stopped reading LNs since I hate translations....so Manga and Manwha generally has better translations since they just translate smaller phrases.
I wonder if Japan will continue to hold such dominance in Cartoon and Comic global market share....or the west will ever get their shit together.
Or other countries like Korea or China also somehow gain more market share in the space...

Heard, that India is going big in the anime and manga market.
The west will probably just release one hit wonders if even that. In my opinion the cultural shift to polyethnics gives more ideas in general, but less interrelation in media and it's representation.

does japan really dominate? i feel like marvel, dc and disney (i guess marvel again) still have way wider appeal and make way more money than even the most successful anime/manga studios

They have a bigger market share through worldwide agressive marketing and the general "consense" of many countries to "westernize", while Japans culture and media is kinda shunned and looked down here in the west and just fills a quite small (but growing) niche.

Did I say something weird or why do I get the silent pig sleaze treatment? :D

I don't reject the mighty pig sleaze. All glory to pig sleaze!

Best food in the world on your opinion?
Noodles. All kinds.

Hear me out. BANANAS.
I'm not talking about flavours, but banana is the best all around food. It's cheap, easy to eat (grab, peel, eat), healthy, gives good amount of energy, tastes good.
My family nicknamed me “monkey” as a kid because I ate so many bananas that I basically gaslit myself into liking them. And I still do.

What’s your top 5 manga/manhwa of all time, good sir? Any manga/manhwa you’re currently following?

Here is mine:

Manga I'm currently following:
1) Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo
2) Onepunch-Man (One)
3) Bug Ego
4) Karate Survival in Another World
5) Versus
6) Under Ninja

For fellow comic fans/nerds: any recommendations? I’m really into brutal, gory, ultra-violent manga, stuff like Crossed and Sin City.

I'm still torn apart about Gantz, hopefully the manga is way better than the anime.

Also, good evening guys. Night owl reporting in.

Why, does it have to do with that infamous last arc?

No, the anime feels so inconsistent, artificial slow and have to leave things out, that are important to the story. The visuals and theme are great, but the implentation lacks. I hope by reading the manga (somewhere in a far future), I will be suprised in a better way.

1. 21st century boys
2. bokurano (super depressing, do not read if you're not having a good time)
3. vinland saga
4. kingdom
5. steel ball run

Great taste! I haven’t read Bokurano or Steel Ball Run yet, but I’ve heard amazing things about them.

Wasn't asked but let me give mine :3

Ouran High School Host Club
Pluto
Ghost in the Shell
My Lesbian Experience with Loneliness
Kaguya-sama: Love is War

No order cause I'm indecisive :)
(Also just started 20th Century Boys and it's shaping up to go in my list as well :3)

21st century boys
I read a lot of Naoki Urasawa’s manga back when I was in my elitist phase, binging everyone’s “top 50” lists. I don’t remember much of them, though I vaguely recall liking Monster decently.

Now, I just read what I like. Who cares if it’s considered “mid”? To me, it’s diamond in the rough.

I'm not sure about any "Top something list". Such lists feel like the top rated stuff on amazon. It's just off.
