Latest Updates (LU) Page Update

Don't think I've seen anyone point it out in the thread and I'm sure it's been spotted but going to say it anyway so it's out there.
Erroneous close statement in developer field

Aside from that I've noticed we're back to not having a plus label on the tiles.
Is that an intentional decision or something that just hasn't been done yet?

Clicking "X" for "Abandoned" games in "Prefix: Status" will result in showing only a couple options that DO have that tag (All "✓" and the other two "X" status options appear to filter results correctly).

Also, any setting did not save. It was reset after I close and reopen the page

First: Great work! I love it.

Some issues, did not find them posted here yet:

Last Update is on results is not quite correct.
Two cases (just for example):

a) The Lost Guardian was updated Nov 11:

You must be registered to see attachments

But on results page it is 90w ago:

You must be registered to see attachments

But sometimes it is 1 y ago (filtering by +):

b) what is difference between Latest Update and Latest Update DateTime? For older releases it is incosistent (search result says 4w ago):

c) for some older games date is quite out (14 weeks for May 2022):

Probably same fix for all these cases, but easier to debug if I give you more examples.

hey selecting standard tier in the filter does not hide plus tier games/media.

but if i select plus tier in the filter, it hides the standard tier games/media.

is that suppose to happen?

Standard filter does not work - it is the same as All
Plus filter works.

My understanding is that
  • Latest Update - is the games latest release date.
  • Latest Update Date/Time - is the thread update date.
If this is accurate (and it appears to be from the threads I checked earlier) then all sorting should be done on the Latest Update, not Latest Update Date/Time. If you want to default sort by the Latest Update Date/Time, please allow sorting by Latest Update, and perhaps call it Latest Release Date to remove the confusion

All that said, the page is significantly more performant. Once the last bugs are shaken out it will be a much nicer page to use, so well done on that.

I understand the problem. Did some further testing, seems like all exclusion filtering in the Engine category is broken.

Another example, I excluded "Unreal Engine" games and yielded no results

Additionally while testing this I found that if you set some filtering in the filters panel and then remove them with the "x" highlighted in the screenshot below it won't update the Filters panel. Not sure if that's a bug or not but it's something that feels intuitive that it should happen.

I dont know if I am being dumb, or not understanding something, or am just tired. But it seems like some games are getting bumped to the top of the LU lists when they get a new posting, despite not getting a new update, while other games are accurately showing their position in the list by update. The difference seems to be the "Latest Update DateTime" section causing this. Some games have this line and some don't.

In the three screens Ive attached in the spoiler, you can see that "The Murphys" has a more recent update, but is listed as older than "Friends In Need" when FIN should be older by almost a month by update but has the datetime thing which (i think) tracks latest posts or thread updates or somthing. I guess my question is: Am I missing something or just not understanding what the LU page is supposed to be tracking?

And sorry if this is something known and Im just a big dumb for not knowing you know about it. Im about 20 minutes away from going to bed, when I noticed it.

Ok so i think what happened is that the update did come out on dec. 7th but didnt get uploaded here till jan. 3, thats why the update time and update date are different. update time is when it hit here and update date is when the dev first published the update

That's why I suggested that the default sorting should be Latest Update, or that at least the option to sort by Latest Update should be available. It's more of a problem now that it will be in future to be fair, because all the updates appear to have impacted the Latest Update Date/Time field (unless I've misread what actually happened)

I can say, however, that Friends in Need was updated here in early december, and then was marked as updated in the Latest Update Date/Time in late decemeber (27th and 30th) and now again on Jan 3rd. I'm sure this is a temporary thing related to the reworking, but just for your information.

i can see the updated logs, thats how i determined what happened, and it will always be sorted by what is most recently updated here on this site. Uploaders have been told however to only post a public update if the game itself is updated. if only links were fixed or mistakes corrected then it will be a silent update so it doesnt bump the post to the top.

Something is wonky.

Category:
"All" shows all games.
"Plus" shows only Members+ games.
"Standard" shows all games.

Standard should exclude Member+ games. I'm pretty sure this flaw is already known.

I feel like this means the text needs to change. Maybe "Latest Update" needs to change to something like "Latest Game Updated:" and "Latest Update DateTime" needs to be "Latest Thread Update DateTime". And the admins/mods would just need to understand that editing a typo, or adding a mod or new image/mirror/etc does not count as a reason to change that last one. Only uploading a new version of the game does.

This would still not be 100% easy to understand, but it would be better for a lot of people. Could even add some html on hover text with clarification to make it even more self explaining.

I'm not a staff member, I was just adding more information to the problem you pointed out.

We need to wait for them to solve this :P

fixes to most of these issues should be getting implemented soon, we are currently working on most of the things that everyone has exposed. thank you to everyone who took time to help us get the LU page all sorted out (or atleast mostly lol).

With the limited knowledge I have in any kind of development processes, I can firmly say that anything made can be working perfectly in testing and such, but as soon as you release it publicly, all hell breaks loose. Whether that is due to the end user breaking the product or some unforseen bug, it doesn't matter much. lol

That being said, this version of LU, even with its issues being found now, is still a dozen times better than any of the half baked place holders in the last year of trying to fix things. Not saying that those previous attempts were bad or ill advised in any way, just that this version is that big of an improvement.

I give my gratitude to everyone involved. I like it, and can only see it getting better from here on out. Good job Staff and Devs.

Fair enough. I would still like the option of sorting by Latest Update as it's most relevant to my interests and it should not be technically difficult as the data is already present, but I accept that may not be feasible right now. Thanks for the feedback
