Yeah both of those movies butchered the plot and pissed off the authors, but hey they still got payed.

Both remakes though pleased the authors as they were more faithful adaptations.

I think you might be mistaken. Philip K Dick was dead before the first Total Recall was made and RoboCop wasn't based on a book and I was just comparing the theming and messaging of the original and the remake.

The RoboCop remake was clearly made by people that didn't understand the original which seems to happen somewhat commonly with Paul Verhoeven's movies. Starship Troopers was pretty heavily criticized when it came out because people didn't realize it was satire.

I was referring to Total Recall and Running Man. I omitted Robo Cop even though the last two were terrible movies.

Still your correct and Starship Troopers was nothing like short novel but the third movie came close.
