It appears that Itch is removing adult games:
First it was Steam, now Itch, next LewdCorner :p

Edit:
It has now been confirmed that they are removing adult (NSFW) content:

next LewdCorner
Already is? 🤷‍♂️
At least the reasons behind those removals, that is payment processors denying the usage of their services for certain kinds of lewd stuff.
That's why LewdCorner is so limited in the means to donate to them already.

But OnlyFans and other sites are ok...
Hum... I wonder what those have in common...
Because it's basically just normal porn. And those sites have already strict rules, like no incest, no rape-play and such stuff. So nothing too immoral.

Maybe they will censor NTR and Harems as immoral haha

The problem comes in that they havn't given any actually indications on what laws/policy they are using to ban content.

So far we know they've went after incest, rape, loli, shota, beastality, furries(fansly). and if you look at all the content fansly removed and changed their tos for it's possible that they were given even more demands.

without knowing which guidelines their following it's entirely possible that this is just the foot in the door for more censorship because afaik not all of those tags are illegal in the usa and so an argument of just trying to stay on the good side of the usa law doesn't really work here. (not implying you made that argument but I've heard others have)

btw Hi im new here!

To be honest I am curious what happens if they go after the furries

It's morally illegal for some people over there, that is enough. Evengelists hate that kind of stuff.
Because none of those tag are actually illegal, as long as it's fictonal. Even smols and stuff, as long as it's not deepfake, or is supposed to be real existing people.

Also... well where to beginn. Yes their laws do work over here, and everywhere on the worlds, because it works by proxy.
Payment processors have to abide to them and those are the ones that do all the money trade all over the world.
Sure they could just say "fuck it" but then they wouldn't be able to do any bussiness with anybody in the US or anybody do does bussiness with those in the US.

It's fucked up, that the US laws have so much power over every country, just because of some religious people over there.

Welcome!

- pixel porn vs inherently exploitative and dehumanizing real porn.

Welcome!
It is not even US law. Last I checked it was some bottom tier Australian conservative christian "feminist" group that got hold of Visa/MC execs and put pressure on them. Either way, it is kind of insane they talk about "maintaining their brand" when their whole brand was about reliable financial transactions for decades.

Yeah, C*llectiveShout, they pretend to be feminits, but they are a typical relgious like most of them, even if they pretend not to be. They are acutally pretty anti feminism in many of ther views.

The whole Itch.io should have come to no ones surprise because of that.

But, while they are refering to australian laws, Steam could just geoblock those games, like they did with Germany and all porn games, because it doesn't have a proper age verification.
No, they are using the US Law FOSTA-SESTA, as a levage, that makes payment processors acomlices in all those stuff, when their service is used for such things.
And for them it's easier to force Steam or Itch.io.

Also I find this part hypocritical...

"conducted extensive research"

Sure... she rubbed her pearl to all those games and then, she demonizes everything pornographic.

Itch.io posted a statement and confirmed they're taking actions due to the same pressure as what Steam received and are forced to conduct a full review of all adult content and will permanently remove any game that infringes on the payment processors policies so yeah.

How the hell is a group that counts a little over 1000 members able to force that much pressure is insane even when knowing how risk-adverse those processors are to anything that could reflect badly on their "reputation".

Whelp - I see an opportunity for a new startup company to swoop in and provide a payment method without additional rules or checks.
As long as it's not literaly illegal -> you can use us for payments.

Whether that is financially viable for this 'genre' of games, i'm not too sure. But maybe others would start using them for regular stuff too - as the annoyance/anger is felt by a much wider audience. (Quite a few big youtubers already raising concerns about this on Steam -> ''who the fuck is paypal to decide wht you want to buy or play'' type of idea

They mention No Mercy as the trigger. The No Mercy dev must be really glad for all the clout he got right now.

There are some initiatives to create new payment processors such as EU's EPI but it's an uphill fight up Mount Everest without gear while dodging rocks being thrown at you. Not only do you need to prove to banks and service providers worldwide that you are trustworthy and secure but you're also effectively going up against the duopoly that is Visa/MasterCard and they wouldn't stay quiet at anyone even trying to muscle on their turf.

Illegal where? The homecountry of the buyer?

Worst part is that all the people who have nothing to do with the US or those payment processors will have no chance in changing anything.
If you are in the US you can at least try to persuate the lawmakers, but we people in the rest of the world... 🤷‍♂️

Also, that's the whole tactic of those organisations, claiming stuff that isn't even true. According to CollectivShit there is ch*ld abuse in the games, which is simply not true.
And as soon as you want to rise concerns, you are a ****, because that's what you are defending, right?

Happend for example with Dungeon AI, because of OpenAI they banned much of certain acts, like bestalitly, incest and smols.
But the trigger was extremly sensetive and blocked even wholesom SFW stuff.
Despide claiming never to do this, they even startet to outsource the checking of those stories, which made the user even angrier.

But what happend? You couldn't complain about this, because everybody outside of the AI Dungeon Bubble shouted one down, saying one is a **** for defending it.
Same with all this shit.

I think the Japanese government was opening (or has opened) an investigation to this whole payment business; and are trying to make a stance..

.

Their succes (or lack thereof) in the matter will lay a lot of groundwork for the rest of the world.
