Yep - People saying they like the cold below 20 C have no friggen idea what they are talking about. Where I live minus 25 C is not uncommon and a week of that will have you fondly remembering your days at 35 C I once had to work outside in Fairbanks at - 40 C (Which is also minus 40 C) --- THAT is cold. There is even a club for minus 40ers there (they have a facebook page)

Recycling (barring that of glass and metals) does exceedingly little to save the planet, both because it's a drop in the bucket, and because anything that's not the aforementioned glass or metals has a very low chance of actually being recycled after it arrives at a center. If you want to help, compact your non-glass non-metallic trash as tightly as possible and throw it away, and you'll have a better effect on the environment, since it'll go to landfill and not to, say China (or thrown overboard en route). The numbers on the plastics other than like 1 and 2 are not functionally recyclable at this time, and effectively every single bale of cardboard has destructive waste in it, making even paper or cardboard recycling mostly ineffective. If you desire to reduce plastice waste... stop using plastic to whatever extent you can.

Plastics should probably not even be in use for food and water for similar reasons to why lead should not be in use, and might have similar (in scale and scope) effects on the 'downstream' ecosystem. At least in landfill, if the landfill is properly sealed, it's more manageable than if it's just thrown overboard somewhere. Plus if the plastic eating microbes actually get going, then it might eventually be broken down in landfill rather than just degrading into microplastics...

It all really depends on where you live — in southern Europe, that kind of cold would feel extreme, but the closer you get to places like Russia or Scandinavia, it’s more or less a normal winter.
It’s all about lifestyle and what you're used to, I guess.

And please don't compare -40°C with +35°C, -40 is much more an extreme than +35, to have a real comparison you'd need to ramp it up to 40-45°C, compare extremes with extremes.

Totally agree — heat is just unforgiving. You can only strip down so far before you hit “public indecency,” and after that… you’re just melting in shame.
At least in winter you can keep stacking layers until you look like a walking laundry basket.
I’ll take the cold struggle over heat exhaustion any day.

Where I am the temperature range fluctuates throughout the year generally between –20 °C (-5 °F) upwards to 36 °C (97°F) and sometimes even worse some years.

I said we can get up to 36 °C (97°F), but that is without the humidity factor, today it hit a high of about 44°C (110 °F) with the humidity...
