I heard a story that Fahrenheit was supposed to indicate healthy body temperature as 100 degrees but I guess they miscalculated a bit

As someone said a little while ago, my mind is limited to understand Fahrenheit, so I'll stick with Celsius.

Why not a nice, round 100°F, or even a more logical 37°C? Because Fahrenheit, in his infinite wisdom, knew that "normal" should always be a number that sounds like it was picked out of a hat. The fact that we all somehow agree that 98.6°F is the golden standard is a tribute to the power of arbitrary precision.


Now, let’s talk about fevers. If your temperature rises to 100°F, you’re "feverish." But at 101°F? Ooh, now you're really cooking. At 102°F, you’re entering the realm of "someone please call a doctor" and by 104°F, you’ve transcended into “why are you still walking around"?


All of this to say, Fahrenheit didn’t just measure temperatures; he crafted an experience. A 98.6°F body temperature isn’t just a number, it’s a reflection of how seriously we take our health in a system that makes us feel slightly lost when we’re reading a thermometer. Because why settle for simplicity, when you can have an entire world of confusion built around something as essential as the human body?


In the end, 98.6°F is perfect. It’s the temperature that tells you, “You’re alive!” but also leaves you thinking, “Wait, how hot should I be again?” Ah, Fahrenheit, always keeping us on our toes.

God knows I have little appreciation for Fahrenheit and yet, one thing it gets right - body temperature when you are sick. At least your level of worries tied to a a little more than just one percentage point. In Celsius its 36.6 - okay, 37 - hmm, something might be wrong, 38 - my god, where is my paracetamol, 39 - call the ambulance, 40 - dead

In other words the method to his madness is that either he was wasted all the time while creating that scale, or just an early form of the modern internet troll.

i never understood fareinheight..For me celcius is better. 0 means liquid solidify..100 its boil..simple for someone limited as me ;-)

That's a very weird thing to base a temperature scale one. In F 0 is as cold as it normally gets in a temperate area, 100 about as hot. Who the fuck takes the temperature of water to see if it's freezing or boiling? You LOOK. Not to mention the boiling point changes with elevation. Who the fuck cares about water temperature? People want to know how hot/cold it is outside, etc.
