Though I've seen many deer that have been hit, don't know anyone that's actually hit one. Do know a guy that hit a horse, though. That really fucked some shit up.I have so far avoided collisions with deer though I have a number of friends that have not been so lucky . It usually results in a lot of damage to the car and never works out for the deer. The best advice I can give people if they are driving in deer country is " If you see a deer cross the road in front of you -- slow down! they rarely travel alone and it is usually the second or third one that you hit."

When I moved to the area I'm in now a bit over 20 years ago, the "main road" from the freeways (about equidistant between two of them) to my subdivision was still only lightly developed, even though my particular subdivision had already been around for nearly 30 years. There was a particular segment near some RR tracks where you'd frequently see deer - I came upon a "herd" of at least a dozen one evening, fortunately none on the road. The fawns and younger does ran - an older doe stared me down from the side of the road. Think I saw a buck in the trees, but wasn't sure since I never stopped moving and it could have just been brush behind a larger doe looking like antlers. Probably about 11 at night, but it's been a few years, so don't clearly recall. These were white tail, so not as big as some, but still can do some damage at speed.
