Yeah, this frustrates me at times. Instead of fantasizing about how things should be, I rather look at reality and see what is. There's plenty of valid criticism about capitalism, but we haven't come up with a better system that doesn't diminish its benefits (Peace, innovation, global increase in health, global decrease in life-threatening poverty).

I mean, to be fair, the current negatives of capitalism could be diminished substantially just by eliminating lobbying.

While all of your talk about CEOs and the rich in general being worth it -- you overlook the silver spoon aspect -- NO ONE that starts off with 400 million from his daddy has a right to call himself a self made man - and he is profiting through no "work" of his own. His salary -- if he works - is decided upon by others that he coincidentally votes on their salaries. His position on boards - is decided by a network of others in the same position. If by some stroke of luck he leaves or loses his job - he will certainly land on another board. NO ONE -- even if he is the second coming of Cornelius Vanderbilt deserves a couple hundred million a year. I still maintain -- we need to eat the rich.

I've been around here forever, pretty much a dinosaur, a goddamn fossil. Yet it still amazes me how much chatter happens here. Just about literally logged out a few hours ago, I haven't been gone *that* long. But here I am, pages and pages behind. Gonna have to improve my backreading powers with speedreading. Or have @Evil Surgeon gimme new eyes, which is sad because these eyes are pretty good considering there's no need to use bleach.

Are you talking about one specific person? What you're saying sounds very specific, at least.

Don't parents want their children to have it better than them? Weren't men in the 50s and 60s working grueling jobs, so their children could receive an education and be spared that experience?

You're right, networking plays a large part. It's important for a prospective CEO to know people in similar positions, and be liked by them. Of course, you have to consider that this person is liked because he's capable and can play at their level. After all, being liked starts with making a good impression.

• In Idaho, it's illegal to be a cannibal.
• In Tennessee, it's illegal to share your Netflix password.
• In New Mexico, "idiots" are banned from voting.
• In Los Angeles, you can't wash your neighbor's car without permission.
• In Chesapeake City, Virginia, adults can't trick-or-treat themselves.
• In Oregon, it's illegal to hunt in cemeteries.
• In South Carolina, it's illegal for under-18s to play pinball.

Some of these laws are archaic and have never been repealed. Even if they aren't enforced, they can still carry severe legal consequences.

Most countries do not actually have laws about eating human meat.
Most of the time it is just against the law to desecrate them.......
Or how you obtained them.....
....so overall, cannibalism isn't illegal per se....but how you go to get that meat is the thing that is probably illegal.

I 100% agree with that. But to my original point, that's for the elected lawmakers to tackle. Companies are playing by the rules that are laid out.
When companies like Facebook encourage lawmakers to enforce moderation on social media, it's not because of the greater good... It's because they already have the tools to do it, and this law would make it impossible for startups to compete with them.
