At least that is what I think happens to abandoned games. Especially when they let the donos decide the plot and theme...
Just a big red flag to not play it until it is complete or a entire season or arc is done.

regardless I have much respect for their efforts as I have stories stuck in my head but have no skill or ability to turn them into something.

Yeah, it's very easy to underestimate the amount of work (and money) that goes into creating these AVN. I wrote a short story and did some coding for one, and even that was almost too much to combine with a day job. I can't help but respect all these devs that create anything, no matter if it gets abandoned or not.

For me, it's the contrary: i'm a decent writer, but i don't know anything about coding and i'm not good at art (except maybe now that i try a bit of AI stuff).

In my experience, once you put anything out there, you'll come into contact with people who want you to succeed. Please don't feel daunted by the coding, it's really not very complex. And, if anything, not knowing what's possible will let you think out of the box and make it possible. Maybe not alone, but there are tons of knowledgeable people on here.
And about AI; this is one of the benefits of it, I think. It will let people like me, who just can't dedicate the time to learn complex software, to still create something.

Yeah, that's fair. It's easy to get an idea of a concept and start working on it without having a clear path forward. Then roadblocks happen, and the frustration just isn't worth it.

This depends on your angle. As just a player, I agree with you. But, playing a first release can also put you in a position to give a developer valuable feedback. I honestly doubt many AVN devs have played hundreds of AVN, and can often use a player's perspective early in development.
