The problem with “ignoring” people is that if no one gives them a con, they, or even worse others, think they are right in their opinion/statement. I'm not talking about this particular person, but about the issue of ignoring someone in general.

Nope, the point isn't to convince the stupid, but those who have not decided yet on a determinate subject.
The stupid is a lost cause, I've seen it too many times already. Arguing with a flat earther is futile, you bring evidence to people who are considering those ideas.
In the case that gave birth to this discussion I would have just made my point to the other members, without addressing the other party, if that makes sense to you.

Disclaimer. I'm not implying that Sarya's counterpart is stupid in any way shape or form (maybe a little close-minded). It's just that the discussion now transcends that particular interaction.
