What do you guys think about "parody" games?

Some are OK, not sure who said it, but I agree Parody should be kinda funny. Most are not.

Generally No.
I'm open to the concept but far too often the person who makes it makes the characters a poor copy of the original. It's like they love how they look but greatly ignore how the character acts.
I've seen short form stuff that works well as it's not a lot of dialogue / actions they need to worry about, longer form stuff it becomes very difficult and too often it's not just a single character they need to worry about.
There are some exceptions however that do lend to having more leeway, Overwatch is an example, popular and characters do have a story but there is not extensive story that cements the characters persona in peoples minds.

parodies are very hard to pull because for them you must know what you are doing and the thing you are parodying
the vast majority are pure embarrassments to see

never really been a fan of parody games. Feels too immersion breaking, or too much shoehorning in an original MC.

For me, 'parody' games are often very mediocre, lacking originality and with a really bad story. We only click on them because of the familiar characters, but they are almost always disappointing (Sorry for my English it's not my first language)

Depends on whether what is being parodied is something I am familiar with or interested in, if so I will often give it a try.

I tend to find them lazy and uninspired. And for some reason, parody makers love to use cartoons with the most un-erotic-looking art. Invader Zim porn? No fucking thanks. :ROFLMAO:

Rule 34, I guess...

The ones I've tried weren't particularly good, they either, lean too far into the sexual aspect and the characters don't really make sense in their art or behavior, or they're too plain, as in, all of it is boring or average, and the only saving grace they have is that x character is in the game.

Personally, I'm not a fan. I feel like it's low effort by definition. Devs should take the time to develop their own characters, worlds, and stories. I would much prefer games that are original IPs

The good ones usually add a twist to the original work. Goblin Layer and Adventure Trainer were entertaining enough. There are a number of games that are only looking to cash in on an established IPs though.

Parody is fine it is just hard to get it right, most of the time they miss. Just like movie games most of them suck but sometimes you find a gem.

wasn't a huge fan but four elements trainer is a gem so I've come around

I think they're great, it's nice to have that extra bit of context for the world with zero needed effort on the part of the dev and the player. It can lead to issues when a character isn't really acting right depending on the player but it's essentially free interest in your game.

The same as parody anything.
Firstly, I am not into pop culture at all, so I will probably not even know the source material, but secondly, even for stuff I know... Just... eww.

Honestly, most parodies are just a low effort attempt to gain engagement without putting in any of the actual work. People make a half-baked attempt to create something meaningful, realize their project sucks balls, then they put in characters from other works in the hope that now at least somebody will click on their work.

Parodies can be good if dev is a fan and knows what they are parody-ing?
one of the Rick and Morty is pretty good.

The Potter type parodies can be good - i saw there is a Family Guy parody available but it didn't get a good write up so i haven't played it yet. Anyone got views on that one?

The family guy one is promising, it really is. However I am going to wait a few more updates, to see if it goes anywhere.
