Yes. Like, if someone sues them and win, maybe they have some loss, but if only 5% of the affected sues them, in total it would still be profit.
There was a car manufacturer that didn't recall faulty cars, because the restitutions of the killed people of the car acted up was way less than what they would lose if they had to fix every cars.
I'm also pretty sure it's one of the things that happens with the forest fires here.
Rich farmers and big companies set fire to a forest as to use the land to something else, and I think the fine they have to pay is less than what they earn by using the deforested area, so they keep doing it...

And it also made me remember of a quote that I like:
"If the penalty for a crime is a fine, then that law only exists for the lower class."

Yeah, stuff like that needs extra steps, in case of the forest fires for example, the fine + they have to pay/do reforastation and of course are barred from using the affected area for anything else.

Yeah, can agree on that, it was way too overhyped Personally I managed to hold my expectations, I wanted Fallout/Skyrim in Space and I got it, got still some problems of course, it is Bethesda after all, but I am happy xD And with the new Car my biggst annoyance has been fixed, thats why I started a new playtrough originally I was waiting for the DLC too, just kinda got the urge

Never played a Bethesda game. Tried playing some Fallout back on the Xbox 360 but hated it. I've been meaning to try Skyrim but too lazy to do so...

Meh, was sick like 2 weeks after my birthday and then had a bunch of stuff to do.

At the moment, i look a bit of both. Face and voice are still kinda masculine, hips, ass and boobs are feminine. So it happens often that people say mister just because they know it will annoy or hurt me.

One I can think of was some EPA stuff when somebody's residentially zoned lot was declared a natural wetlands and they were required to "return it to its original condition" after it had been graded and construction had started.

Sometimes it's an honest mistake. I've knew trans people that didn't do any transitioning, so the appearance was the same as any other cis person, and even cis people that had really androginous looks, but most of the time it's indeed just to be cruel.

The main advantage of fixed fines is that they don't require any analysis of the person's income. If you want a scaled fine you have to have the person swear to how much money they make and probably provide written proof. It's more work for everyone. I think things like points on driving license, community service and other alternative punishments to fines/prison are generally better if the crime doesn't merit imprisonment.

A major problem in the States is that fines go back into the treasury of the local government issuing the fine, or worse in civil asset forfeiture they effectively go directly to the police agency, so there's perverse incentives to overregulate and put police resources on setting up speeding traps to issue speeding tickets rather than doing something about real crimes.
