Yeah i have same experience. It was really bad in the past years, but it's becoming increasingly good, good enough at least to roughly understand a VN story. I'm using Textractor, a freeware that automatically translate text using google translate or other online providers, it works with most VN and some games too (when it doesn't work i use capturetotext and then paste the text in google translate manually).

It would be logical to have a gender neutral like it for objects and concepts but to include animals in the gender thing like humans. What i would love is also for people to stop using gendered term when it's not needed. Why are shopkeeper always saying Mister or Madam? Is what i have in my pants important for selling me bread? Humans are such weirdo, i swear!

I always found funny how portuguese, spanish and italian is so similar. Give a sentence in one of these languages to a speaker of another one and there's 50% chance of they getting the gist of it! Hahaha

I studied latin a bit in school. So as it's same latin roots for most words in french, spanish, portuguese and italian, i understand a bit. I only learned a bit of spanish, but with the help of what i know of latin, when i journey to Peru i was understanding most of what's people were saying (plus, i was with a cute girl who was fluent in spanish, who spend one Erasmus year in Madrid and can help me if needed so it helps).
