My friend, just do your backreading to understand from where all this comes from before jumping to conclusions :) This is the most sarcastic forum you will find in LC.

It was very much a tongue in cheek kind of comment, so not to be taken any more seriously than the rest of the thread. ;)
It's just an OCD thing, I can't walk past such a soft pitch in the middle of the strike zone.
It was a little drive-by though, I hadn't kept up on the backreading.

First time the wife and I are going to Alaska, any tips or sceneries to go look at? Leaving today
The glaciers are pretty cool, I don't know if you could schedule a helicopter tour at this point but you can have them drop you on the top so you can walk around.

Oh yeah japan is very patriotic, sometimes even more than some american ppl which i find kinda funny, since ppl usually associate patriotism with america.
Is it patriotism or nationalism?

Look at cultures where everything is passed down through oral tradition. You have a younger generation that doesn't want to or can't be bothered to learn from their Elders. You have centuries and generations of knowledge, customs, traditions that will be lost forever. This applies to Asia, the Middle East, Africa, South America, and Europe. Imagine being able to trace your ancestry back that far- only to have it be forgotten. That's truly sad. :(
I understand the whole oral tradition thing. But, the world moves on. If you're tradition isn't important enough to fucking write down then it 's gone.
There are Native American tribes that refuse to share many stories and tradition with anyone who isn't devoted to the tribe. in the next breath, they complain about the erasure of their way of life and culture. Their language is disappearing because nobody can learn it? Oh, because only these few people are allowed to teach it, outside of school? Fuck right off with all that bullshit.
The reason all the knowledge, customs and traditions are being lost, is because stubborn dipshits aren't recording them.
Sorry about the mini rant there. But, you shouldn't feel sad for other people's arrogance. They probably wouldn't want us to know the secrets anyway.

What's even worse, from an American standpoint only (so not as far back chronologically)- you have a younger generation of people that were born and raised here, attended school here, have a lot less to remember than the rest of world- and they couldn't pass a Citizenship test at gunpoint. (Anybody remember Jay Leno's "Man in the Street"?)
Just FYI, the "Man on the Street" style of interviews and stuff like that really does go for lowest common denominator.
I'm not saying people aren't stupid, they are, but it's not everyone.
They have to film a LOT of people to find the truly stupid (or dumb and funny). Sometimes they film for multiple days to get good footage. Ever notice how the segment will almost always have one person that appears multiple times? The people who get the questions right aren't funny!
Another example is those food reality shows: Food Paradise, Bizarre Foods, Diner's Drive-Ins with Guy Fieri, etc. They film little 5-10 minutes spots about one food or diner or restaurant. Each little 10 minutes takes them 4-8 hours to film.

That is also very true. As someone pointed out earlier so much of that can be attributed to natural disasters and war mainly.
There aren't archives, or back-ups, or off-site storage. So much of it was painstakingly hand written and only one copy ever existed and if it's destroyed- probably well after the person who wrote it has passed away...it's gone forever.
Oral traditions can disappear if someone dies suddenly, too

I thought I was the only one who did that. I notice misspelled words, the wrong tenses, punctuation, and even an Oxford comma will bug the crap out of me. I guess that adds to the time it takes to get through this. :ROFLMAO:
My posts look dyslexic sometimes before I edit them.

I think you might be right. Did you try all the other weird Big Cup "flavours" they came out with- the ones with the Reese's pieces, potato chips, Reese's Puffs, and Caramel- just to name a few?
I absolutely loath Reese Pieces, they're the candy corn of Reeses. I never tried any of the weird stuff, though. White chocolate a couple times. But, why mess with perfection?

I've always heard you couldn't Bork the willing... ;)
It wasn't the love-making that was unwilling! It was the kisses on the mouth. :(

That just makes me wanna fuck you more you know! But worry not i will make it a special fuck for a special badge person!
How romantic!

Pumpkin recess for the win for sure. A possible more controversial opinion is that I prefer the white chocolate ones.
I may not agree with your chocolate choice, but the peanut buttery goodness wins!

Remind me after halloween and i'll give the pop rocks a go.
Enjoy! You won't, but you can try.

I never realized that China hated Chewbacca, this wookie erasure will not stand!
:ROFLMAO:

There used to be a pizza place near me that had a pizza special which was buffalo sauce, grilled chicken and crushed potato chips. It was actually pretty good. On the other hand I ordered pizza with mashed potato on it in Japan and loved it so maybe I'm just weird.

I always wonder about that with those interviews, even ones where they're interviewing a limited crowd, e.g. people at a protest about their political beliefs I wonder how many they have to ask before they find someone talking about how everything is colonialism or everyone with brown skin needs to go back to Mexico to feature on the show.

These scenarios don't just arise due to the culture involved. Were there not several decades/centuries where teaching the Native language was illegal. There have been several instances around the world through history where indigenous peoples or cultures have been systematically suppressed and attempts made to eradicate anything that is not approved of by the authorities in charge. Think about the effects of all those Christian missionaries from the European Colonial expansion era. Same as all those forced relocations of communities from areas that were of significance to those cultures just because those forcing the movement felt they had more right to it because they had more power.

You're not entirely wrong, but those things aren't happening now. Small native communities have become fairly isolated due to their own choices. Choices informed by the past, sure, but still their own choices that aren't congruous with modern reality. The size and isolation means there's very few opportunities which drives away younger tribe members who want to make something of their lives. These people are strangling themselves to keep their distance from long dead historical figures.

Also, a lot of the knowledge we have of those cultures exists because missionaries made sure to write down as much about their history, language, and society as they could. Conquerors, colonists, and explorers were perfectly content to destroy the culture's they found in order to control those people. Actual missionaries were usually opposed to the destruction and exploitation they'd find when they arrived. There aren't a whole lot of people who believe strongly enough to dedicate their lives to faith while still being ok with slavery and murder.

That knowledge that has been preserved till now will only survive for as long as the people controlling it and those in power deem that it is convenient to do so. The moment it's not we're back to 'book burnings' again.

And to say these things aren't happening now I will direct you to looking into whats happening to the Uyghur Muslims.

I like Reese's Pieces. Although I also enjoy candy corn, so I'm probably just weird. White chocolate Reese's are ok. White chocolate M&Ms however are downright addictive.

There's a place near me that makes a baked potato pizza and it's delicious. Potato seems to be an excellent pizza topping in general that doesn't get enough love.

At a protest probably not many. Just walking the streets on an ordinary day they probably talk to about 5 times as many people as they feature in the video.

It feels like you are writing this from the perspective that it doesn't happen now, even if you aren't. This still happen in places like china, many Muslim countries or USA. In some it's done on a Governmental level, in others in a social or religious one, but the end result is mostly the same.

It's a lot harder to burn every copy of a book than it is to take out a small community. Especially these days with cloud storage and digital media. The fact that people in power can become a problem isn't really an excuse to not do what you can to preserve your community and culture.
And to say these things aren't happening now I will direct you to looking into whats happening to the Uyghur Muslims.
I was generally talking about the US and other first world countries with native/aboriginal populations. The Uighurs aren't isolated by choice.
