My likes range from "I read this post and liked the content" to "I read this post and you put in enough effort that I'd feel bad not liking it regardless of what you had to say".

If it's anything other than a simple white thumb on a blue background, I've read it and I'm actually reacting to it with more than just a simple like.

I initially had that moment, too, but I think a lot of people during backreads may like or react to comments without fully reading them. It happens.
I don't think reactions should necessary be something to make that determination.

Sometimes posts have multiple topics, and people react only to the part that adressed them, or that they agreed with and then move on.

I think I might be guilty of giving a react a little too much weight...
I don't "Like" anything that I don't actually Like... My reactions are my reactions.
That said, if I disagree/dislike a post, I just don't react to it - often it's a subjective/opinion thing. But, if I vehemently hate a comment, like when there was some transphobia in the other thread, that's when the "Dislike" react comes out.

All in all, I think we all have our own way of using the system. But, that also means we have our own way of interpreting others use of it too.
I do like Algeos response though, there's a Like you use that says "I read this".
And Kura makes a good point, that sometimes there's multiple aspects to a comment.
