Well it's not really a fete, anyone can do it.

Kidding aside, I've done it myself. After high school I worked over nights in a grocery store stocking shelves. On my way home after work I nodded off and into the ditch I went, scared the ever-living shit out of me. It wasn't anything major, I woke up as I was going into the ditch and was able to get back onto the road, but that feeling was horrible.

Not even close to y'all kinda scary though, I was once "road hypnotized" driving across the most boringest, flattest, straightest, nothingest part of Canada. (NY to MI)

Looked down at the clock and 2 hours had passed that I have absolutely no memory of, at all.

Got hit by a lake effect snowsquall just outside Wawa Ontario. Wound up hitting a patch of black ice, spinning 180 degrees, then skidding into the ditch and doing a barrel roll.

Sure not all fault lies with companies but it definitely lies with the investors and ceo's your bobby kotick's, randy pritchford's, jeff bezos, elon musk and bill gates who took advantage of this without ethics or remorse to get profit.

Yeah. I keep ping-ponging between phases where I push most of the blame on the immoral fuckwits at the head of companies & their shareholders, or wanting to strangle the gamers that have again and again voted against their self-interest by signing off on every single damn thing that made gaming worse.

I will however agree we do vote with our wallets and they will do whatever they can get away with same as how the government can take power away from its citisens imperceptably over time with taxes.

Yeah, that's a good point. Instead of "earning" the players attention constantly by providing something great... they realized they can just draw attention and then remove the moments where you'd quit.
And because you bought it, because you're playing it already, you just keep on going. Even if it's less fun, even if it's more like an obligation you adhere to out of habit, you still stick around.

The sad tragedy of it all is that it's not really the companies' fault. They just did whatever got them what they want the easiest and most reliable.
We players voted with our wallets. Every time they came up with a really bad idea, we said no - they said, "here is the same idea just a little less bad" - and we said alright, I'll buy that shit.

That's how all the bad got mainstream. Microtransactions, day-one DLC removed from the base game, battle passes, etc.

And that's why I wait until all dlc is released and combined into a complete/gold/goty edition. Then I wait until that edition is on sale for around $20. I've got such a fucking backlog I have no need to play the best and newest games anymore.

Yeah, same here. My backlog is so long, I can just keep buying 3-5 year old games at a 90% discount and I won't run out of interesting games.

i'd say it is not as simple as that since for the majority of people it is work for em or starve since they have such ludicrous amount of power and money plus they will easily go together and bar someone from getting a job just because they were not a good little drone. And in the west and usa specifically money and connections is what gets you your way. considering lobbying is something you can spend money on doing in the us to change laws to suit your need. that and they will spend alot of money just to make sure the public gets less for the main thing that has value for em is getting to do and get away with things we cannot get away with and will end up with jailtime or bankrupting fines.
