if the art is curated and consistent with the characters I'm ok with it, but only as long as an actual person is actually writing the story, not copy pasting whatever chatgpt churns out.

ignoring any moral or ethical issues - they just look bad. No matter how carefully curated there's always some jank in the image, and it's a distinct style like daz3d or honey select is and very easy to spot. character consistency is key for a game and generating the images with SD and maintaining consistency is a real pain in the ass.

I don't mind people using them for backgrounds or whatever but seeing aicg of the characters is a big 'nope'.

e: individual stills can look good but you have to throw away so many before you find a good one. It just doesn't scale well to games.

I think if you are able to repaint the same character over and over again in different situations with a software as easy and good as stable diffusion, it will be a big shifting point for making games.

I think ai has a place in creative projects but funnily enough, only in the parts of the project that don't require creativity.

It could be used for the simpler parts of coding a game, that are more tedious than actually difficult, I'm told by people who know more about ai code work that they can't be trusted with all coding, that they have a tendency for redundancy and spaghetti code.

As for the actual creative aspects, I suppose they could be used as an aid in getting the creative juices flowing, providing prompts or suggestions but an actual person has to be the one actually creating the art.

One thing no one talks about though is using AI for the voices of characters. I feel like there is a lot of potential there eventually. Though obviously the copyright issues for certain parodies is going to cause corpo seething.

Bad. Bad. Very Bad. Terrible, even.

yeah, you can relax there. most of that notion is baseless fear. any art ai has to be trained on something in order to do anything. meaning there will always be a requirement for artists to exist so the ai has something to be trained on. they, as they currently exist (they aren't actually AI, but a combo of prediction algorithms designed to mimic) they can never replace actual artists.
That hasn't stopped companies from already trying to replace their artists with AI.

I personally wouldn't mind seeing AI used to help out with the script if the dev of a game is having a hard time with some scenes or wants to streamline the process a bit. Otherwise I personally like seeing the variety of art-styles of different games and would worry that AI art would result in something too bland or visually inconsistent. That being said I did just pick up LWA a bit ago and am enjoying it so far so we'll see how it goes.

I don't really care how the product was made, only if it's good or not 🤷‍♂️ Text, image, and voice generation are just tools in the developer's tool box

If it is done good the it's good if done bad it's bad

I hate its use in most other aspects. however, i think it may have a place here if used sparingly.

I think it can be use as a good tool, but shouldn't be use as a replacement. Be used as a tool can help with creativity.

A thought, an AI that is trained on the internals of Daz models. Ie, instead of trying to generate pictures or text, generate whatever data Daz uses to define the models and positions, etc.

Caveat, I know nothing about Daz, and have only dabbled in NN's

It will make the work finish faster but idk about the art

the problem with daz is it takes a 4090 5 minutes to render a frame

also the problem with daz is it's horrible to work with.

also the problem with daz is that their physics sim, dforce, is absolute dogshit and neigh unusable.

but the worst? the worst is every fucking asset is made for daz because of their store. JUST BE A BLENDER MODEL STORE! Nobody's there for iray or your awful interface.

where was I?

oh yeah. If you trained machine learning on DAZ settings and a 4090 you could spend an hour to get a handful of terrible images instead of 30 seconds.
