discussion Does anyone usually skip parts of visual novels? If so, what parts?

Always skip the intros, they're always way too long and tell you the most obvious / already assumed stuff

Usually just end up skipping at random intervals. Skips some speeches, read a bit than skip again for a while, rinse and repeat.
Suprisingly, it is very rare thats it feels as if I missed something important.

I do the exact same thing. Some visual novels have good renders, but the writing is atrocious or the conversation is completely unrelated to the story, ofc it's gonna get skipped

Yeah agreed. The pacing is just not right sometimes so you have to make it right yourself lol

"Raises hand," Um,... yeah, so why go to all the trouble to download (even purchase) and visual NOVEL, and then skip the dialog?

If actually playing the game and reading the dialog is too much, wouldn't it be easier to just watch porn?

Because a good story can have terrible writing, or way too much "fluff" pushed in to pad it out. You can still enjoy the story while not reading the 15 minute description of the car he's checking out before the hot saleswoman comes over to 'convince' him to buy the car....

Usually if I'm skipping large chunks it either means a) I'm on a replay and just want to see what I missed the first go around, b) I'm about to remember that I can get better porn with less effort, or c) both

I don't usually skip stuff, but sometimes the dev has attempts at humor that go on way too long and if I don't find them funny I'll skip those when they come up.

I'll start with skip off and read a bit but if it feels like I'm wasting my time skip goes on. Especially when you get a dumb male friend character who talks and talks I'll skip and depend on Quest log to tell me what to do or rewind 3ish pages before a choice.

I try not to Ctrl skip as much as possible, but if the dialogue starts to drag on i tent to fast click chunks of the game so i can get to the good part faster but still can read enough lines to get a understanding of whats going on.

I tend to do a thing where I hit skip close my eyes and sit back for like 30 seconds if the skip is still going it isn't enough of a game for me so I stop playing there. Games + I will play anyway because there isn't enough variety to skip but I hate games where you can skip that much stuff.

I always skip flashbacks and dreams, zero risk/consequence or not real scenarios that I can't change anything is are boring AF.

I'll be honest I tend to skip the majority of dialog so I can get straight to the action. Do love flirting and dirty talk though so I'll usually skim read that

Ironically, the sex parts, I mean, it's not that I skip them as such, just the conversations, more than anything because at that moment I prefer to continue with the game and the plot.
