Best movie sequels of all time!

Can't agree more, Terminator 2. Although Dune 2 was a good sequel as well.

Share your thoughts on what movie sequels you think are amazing.

I'll start by saying that Terminator 2 is one of the best sequels ever made.
I love Terminator 2 but its not a good sequel. The first Terminator was almost a horror film (I'd argue it is horror) T2 is purely an action film kind of the same way Alien and Aliens are 2 very different kinds of films. That said I think Terminator 2 is the best action flick of all time, and The Terminator is an amazing movie and hard to follow up on. Does Iron Man (1) count as a sequel to Hulk since they're in the same MCU, If so that's probably best sequel since it improved on the original so much so that everyone thinks that its the first movie in the MCU.
I take it back Two Towers is the best sequel and I don't think it will ever be topped, but I still want to leave in the iron man part because that's probably the biggest 'glow up.' The battle of helms deep was by far the best part of TLOTR movies and while The Return of the King has a ton of good stuff its kind of broken up a bunch of the story and almost half of the book is missing. Frodo throws the ring into mount doom in chapter 3 of his part and that's pretty much the end of the movie so it wasn't as good of an adaptation and they took the really good cliff hanger for Frodo and Sam from the end of the two towers book and put in in as the beginning of The Return of the King. Plus they really did those movies right they look better than the Hobbit ones and they were filmed in the 90's.

that's an interesting take there. i suppose it does come down to how we define "sequel", but i do see your point.

my opinion is that even though it is set in the same universe, and features many of the same characters, Iron Man would not count as a sequel because the writer/director did not have the intentions to do that.
in other words, within film, the artist/creator/writer should tell the viewer how they are supposed to interpret (or not) if a particular media is going to be a direct sequel to another film.

Does Two Towers really count as a sequel either by those metrics? It was filmed at the same time. Sure, it's the second book of the series, but it wasn't made after the success of Fellowship as a sequel to that movie. It was always going to come out from the moment they planned to make any of it.

Glass Onion. Not only another great whodunit, but going from "Fuck The Rich In General" to "Fuck Musk In Particular" was -*chef's kiss*-

Might be recency bias but Dune 2 fits the bill. The first one was good, but the second one cleverly utilizes everything from the first (expected audience knowledge of whats happening, the familiarity with the story) and flies with it. 100% helps that it was a book first, and I do think having a better sequel is much more impressive when you don't have source material.

Rian's style isn't really my thing and sequels isn't his thing. He does stand alone movies. Last Jedi proves just how unsuitable he is to corporate franchise filmmaking, strongest part was his auteur self shone through, but he did upend the sequel trilogy and foiled the plans of Iger, Kennedy and Abrams. I bet he sat there ate his popcorn and enjoyed the trainwreck. The film was memorable at least i can't tell you what ever the f Rise of Skywalker, i mean Palpatine was, and Force Awakens was a remake of A New Hope. I bet you the Lucasfilm people just trusted Rian, there is no way they read that script and approved it, if they did it means KK and Filoni are more foolish than i thought.

I like the Indiana Jones movies but the quality varies from excellent Raiders, good TOD, almost good LC, moderate CS, and absolute bottom dead end, Dial.

after the last jedi, i cannot stand any of his work - the exception being that one episode of breaking bad
KK and Filoni are more foolish than i thought.
depravity has no bounds.....or something like that - the point is star wars is screwed
