I like grindy games but if the payoff isnt good or if the gameplay isnt fun im out

Grinding, also posting a guide to progress through a game. That's just bad design IMO.

I've gotta go with idle time like loading screens or any sort of unskippable activity-halting sequence. Long story cutscenes in a gameplay-focused game (so not VNs). Grinding doesn't immediately put me off a game--I've seen and played through "fun" or at least "rewarding" grinds--but if it's slow and full of load times, I'm out.

sandbox. cant stand it
Good sandbox is possible but usually it's shit. Especially the "guess which place is the ONE place that will advance the game." Even worse when it has to be a particular time. And any grinding whatsoever REALLY sucks.

I like hentai games, but the setup must be something that clicks with me too. Like what's the reason behind it, how it blends with the story, stuff like that.

For example I'm more into games where the girl wants to do lewd stuff and shows interest on her own rather than being forced to do it/pimped to do it. Not because of "oh no the consent", but I find it more hot when the girl character is the one that's interested in perverted things and how she becomes more and more perverted.

Just the game-play really. Incomprehensible controls, annoying mini-games or the most probable culprit - excessive grinding

I don't like when some games that I download say they are animated but all the animation is just in game battle and the actual scenes are regular pngs like cmon I was hoping for some animations T^T

I Think it's the use of English. I'd like to understand what is meant in one read. I don't want to the same piece read 2 or 3 times to understand it. And the sex should be logically built up, not random fucking every 5 minutes or so.

  • Grinding without noticeable progress. It can be done right when you get an indication, i.e. characters commenting on how much fitter you look, but even then in moderation. Nothing worse than games where you need stat x at value y and the process is "Wake up, do task, do task, interact to check if I can progress, go to sleep, repeat" for ages.
  • QTE minigames, or minigames not matching the story. You're a janitor who has to repair a boiler and there's a pipes minigame? Fine with that. Same scenario but it's Blockout? Na, thanks. This does not apply to games where these reaction-tests are part of the core game loop though.
  • Shitty translation. If you're not firm with the target language, let the computer do it. Google Translate is good, DeepL is better, LLMs are near perfect and can be tuned. Afraid to use those because you talk about dubious stuff? Run an LLM on your own machine, for text it's enough to run on the CPU. Or just ask around forums for any volunteers.
  • Lackluster renders. No one can expect perfection from a first timer, or even hobbyists at all. But there's a quality difference between effort put in or not.
  • With VNs, transitions between views in the same scene.
