When you lean too heavily on story at the expense of gameplay, you're just reading. Sure, story matters, but for me, a mediocre story can be forgiven if the gameplay is good. I've played lots of "regular" games where the gameplay is great but doesn't rely heavily on story and they've been a lot of fun. The thing for me with VNs is that without gameplay, the story HAS to be good. So to answer the question, I probably wouldn't call a game that ONLY has good writing to even be a game anymore, but stories can have their place. I've passed a few hours on Dumb Koala and there's no gameplay at all with them.
Dumb Koala is great for a quick fix but I find so many of these other games are written so terribly, the story so awful and or unbelievable that it makes the game play just unbearable. I need the feels too.

Maybe consider writing a text based game. Some games are already text stories with some gifs from porn or ai. Otherwise try to find someone on forums that does lewd animation for your stories that can succeed even if it's 95% text and 5% animations. Not my cup of tea though

There are plenty games that I play for the story. I probably wouldn't play them without the NSFW part, but that's often just a nice bonus while playing.

it's always pleasant to stumble upon a decent story, makes for a more immersive experience

absolutely two examples pop to mind coven and the bite revenant

Absolutely. A weak storyline immediately kills the immersion, making the game boring to play. After 15-20 minutes, you start yawning or falling asleep over the keyboard. And such a game quickly ends up in the trash bin.

I have a friend who swears by the game Demon Roots. Apparently one of the only games on steam he choose to buy to support the developer. He's cried over it, it is something else.

ehhhh, if i want a good story i'll go read a book or watch a movie lol
i play sexy games for sexy times, though a good story helps a lot of course. even in text-based games i mostly play, the story is usually pretty meh, but as long as the writing itself is fun or the kinks are good, i'm with it

Definitely. It is a good plot that is the main component. And good gameplay, of course. Sexual content is secondary to me. If you need porn, then there are countless specialized sites for this.

Yea it's why I play most games not just VN's, gotta be at least some logic or well written characters or I have to push the big red button

pretty good writing and is worth playing for that alone
i played the nature of magic recently it has great world building sex scenes are great but i mainly stuck with it for the charectors and story
and if eternum didnt have sex scenes i would still play it

I'm gonna use Eternum as an example. For me, it's kind of the Skyrim vibe. It's just somewhere fun to hang out. I think that's not quite plot, not quite characters, not quite atmosphere.

Story in porn games is even more secondary, than story in general videogames. Theme/fetishes is what important, than graphics and structure/design. The porn story in the end will always be about - "his strong manly hands probed every crevice of her silky femininity", to quote The Naked Gun. It is completely subservient to a genre and simply cant stand out on its own any more than your average wine mom's soap.

Sure like half of my playtime in cyberpunk or witcher are spend on side quest and make me more grounded to the world in game and make the game overal more enjoyable

I look primarily for immersive experiences rather than writing in games. I make the exception for VNs on a rare occasion, such as Higurashi or Katawa Shoujo. And yes... porn. In either case, I generally prefer a comedic tone.

As I mentioned in another forum, I play anything from my favorite genre, regardless of whether it has a bad story or not.For example, I like the story of The Missing Part and Artem.
