Why refuse to play games not made with Renpy?

I play with an Android and most games that are mobile or are ported are renpy.

Renpy has a standardized set of controls, is easily customizable, easily modifiable. I've seen other people remake VN engines for games that could have been easily designed in Renpy that suffered from very basic ui problems like the inability to go back through the game log or to skip animations. Some people reinvent the wheel and make it square.

Unless you're doing something beyond the capabilities of Renpy such as free 3D rotation (like "The Twist") then Renpy is perfectly suitable.

RPGM are so grindy.
I'm not a huge fan of RPGM games but there's a program called Mtool that makes them much more tolerable to play imo, though it can ruin some games as it's easy to over do it (at least in my experience)

Renpy is like Excel. Everyone is familiar with it to some capacity

RenPy works fine and natively with both Linux and Windows, it does not need powerful hardware. Renpy code can be easily modified. RPGM is not flexible as Renpy, the UI is worse and it's slower. Unity or Unreal are for real games, not Visual Novels, where you have to actively use the mouse. They're heavier and they have higher hardware requirements that many people do not meet, because often we play porn VNs on secondary PCs and old laptops. I don't play VNs on my work machines.

Same as others I'm a Linux user so renpy just works but anything else I have to fire up a VM or some shit. So something has to look real good to even bother trying if it's not renpy.

For me it boils down to the collective components that make up the player experience. Everything from the ease with which to manage the game and it's saves, to the interface, layout, etc. Ren'py is superior in my view to other engines like Unity and certainly RPGM because it's less clunky and a helluva lot more forgiving. I've seen UI controls and capabilities with Ren'py that just don't seem to exist on the other game engines I've played games in. Not to mention the de facto "formula" for AVNs lends itself better to Ren'py. Unity to me is something I'd want to play a game that has more complex and broad reaching mechanics, but I don't reach for those kinds of games. I hate 2D games, I hate sandbox, and pretty much anything that even closely resembles "grinding". I play actual PC games to scratch that kind of itch, and I find that in general AVN devs either lack the knowledge, experience, budget, or capacity to crank out a complex game that plays like a traditional one but has the NSWF aspect nailed. To that end, I find Ren'py checks all the boxes for me:
  • Ability to have unique splash screens, main menu, and other UI aspects so that not every game feels/looks the same unless the dev is lazy
  • No limit to the quality of renders or animations, if the dev is capable of creating it, they can implement it.
  • So far as I can tell - while it might be complicated - it's not impossible to implement many advanced game mechanics to make it feel more immersive without taking away from the overall aesthetic; MC cell phone, etc.
  • With the above in mind, there are certain universal truisms with Ren'py that make it (mostly) reliable from the player's perspective to be able to jump right in to any game and already know the keys needed to navigate and otherwise configure it.
  • Can be played on pretty much any OS, including Android.
  • Simple, yet satisfying; almost zero learning curve as a player.

The biggest problem is that most RPGM cannot be played with one hand. Another is that most RPGM games do not actually need to be RPGM, it would be much better if they were made in Renpy.
Finally, a well-made rpgm game broke all my prejudices and made me understand that the problem was not with the game engine but with the lazy developers.
I recommend Sword Art Online: The Trap of Breath Concealed Magic

Some people prefer Ren'Py games because they’re familiar with the interface and style. It’s easy to navigate and usually delivers what they expect in a visual novel. Other engines can feel clunky in comparison.

Although I play any game based on content, I prefer Renpy because when there is a bug I can quickly decompile and fix it so I can finish the release. Some other engines like Unity or Unreal of like using a sledge hammer to pound in a tack, so the overhead is too much but I understand some devs will build their game on one of those game engines to learn the engine, which is a fun way to learn the engine basics.

Also renpy is kind of feature complete when it comes to visual novels, but not every game should be a visual novel, it's kind of the easy way to make a h-game, requir less knowledge, but a bit of diversity never hurts and I feel like most games coming out those days are visual novels :(

I do play games made in other engines but my specs aren't good enough for some games but never had a problem with low specs on a renpy game

I think depending on the content, Unreal engine or Unity might have some requirements, that not all users can acheive.
And be honest, you not need a Unreal 5 Game for an VN.

But in Unreal and Unity you have a lot of work to do to make a A+++ Game, which is unfortunately often expected by the users.
So, I can imagine that many users just want to have the best visuals on their devices. And there RenPY mostly wins.

Renpy has the best interface and it's mostly cross platform so we don't need to check on each game if it's my device compatible or not and generally games made in it are of low size

Mostly because of saves. RenPy have preview pictures, almost unlimited save space and simple menu. Unity often have not comfortable menu and RPGM problems with only 20 saves slot and rarely have gallery.

I’m just used to turning on the game, going into preferences, full screen and skip unread. Having to learn other interfaces is just a first world struggle

I only use Linux and am thus not interested in games that do not work in Linux.
And Ren'Py does work in Linux. So it is not so much that I refuse other engines, just that Ren'Py is the only one that consistently works without a hitch.
