The Awakening
I learned about AVN's not too long ago. Still haven't dabbled in most of the 'big games' people talk about. I had come across PHG which was first site I ever found, and just sorted by 'popular' and that's the #1 game on the site.
And tbh it's a great game, I never understood why it doesn't see as popular other places as it does on PHG. Maybe because the 'story' isn't super deep? But renders are great, animations are solid. But from what I understand it's undergone quite a few improvements over the years, so I don't think I ever played it until after multiple redo's of earlier content.

Fran and Sinner's Island basically got me started on my eroge journey.
What a classic. It's lolicon though, so I guess I was a degen from the start. I loved the focus on bondage and captivity. The story took me like 20 hours to complete. The bad ends and the slave route were simply incredible. I love settings where a character that is strong or of high social status is defeated and captured, and where the game makes you feel how helpless the protagonist becomes, as you experience every part of their training. The writing was also pretty decent for a porn game.
Needless to say I've played all other Kurasuke's games and I'm looking forward to their upcoming work. However their last one felt more vanilla than usual. Or maybe I just enjoyed it less because of a shitty MTL translation where the dialogue and jokes just didn't land.

That's like the stone age in terms of porn game history. You're a grey-haired veteran.
It's one of those porn games where the game systems are incredibly well made. I recommend it if you value good gameplay over everything else.
