Which game engine do you hate?

Will mostly RPGM because they’re usually Japanese so I can’t run them on my PC

That engine where the anime porn games are made, idk it's name

I am curious to see what people think about the choice of a game developer for an engine. Is there an engine, that when you see it's used, no matter how good the art looks, you are reluctant or outright ignore the game because of it?
For me, its RPGM. I have played some good games made in this engine, but most of the times, it's a buggy mess, clunky or just feels that the "rpg mechanics" offer nothing but an annoyance. So, most of the time, I just ignore games made in RPGM
decently rpgm I've seen more unity and renpy with better use of rpg/ turn based mechanics that aren't clunky that and most good rpgm games aren't translated for international or the fan dubs are ass if not sub par sadly

I typically just ignore all games that aren't made in Ren'py. If something is REALLY popular and in other engines then I might make an exception, but it's rare.

Completely agree, Ren'py all the way for me.

Anything non-Ren'py. One reason: URM mod.

Pen and paper? Home rules.
Board games? Home rules.
Mainstream games? Mods (unless game has inbuilt options and/or cheat codes)
Porn games? Mods (which, for the most part, is either user driven i.e. gotta wait, or URM which works on 95%-ish of Ren'py games)

I'm at a point in my life that I'm SO done jumping through hoops for any game, porn or mainstream. I'll live without if it's anti-mod or MMO, thanks.
EDIT = BUT I will no longer trash talk devs on their threads for anti-modding. I'll just put them in a real or mental list, avoid and move on.

RPGM. And Unreal - since game developers using this engine pay little attention to optimization, the result is that some amateur projects consume more resources than top-tier, professionally made AAA projects.

It used to be RPGMaker for me but I've learned to appreciated the nuances of the engine, its not great but it really depends on the dev, most won't go out of their way to constumise engine setting sin depth. Another one is Unity which is 50/50 imo, some games run really well, low impact while other games make my laptop sound like a jet engine even when they are 2D.

RPGM. I do not know why though. I think it creates the implication of grinding in my mind

RPGM, with a few rare exceptions like Treasure Of Nadia and that saga of games

Should've expected RPGMaker was constantly mentioned. I'll add to that I have a love/hate relationship with it as I played around developing for it, but by far the best and worst aspect of it is that the skill ceiling for just starting out and 'mashing some random pre-built shit together into a working whole' is so low literally anyone can do it, and that attracts so people just lazily putting some garbage out there. On the other hand, there's some absolute gems in both porn (MGQ paradox) and SFW games on it, despite the clunky engine.

Im curious for since im someone who has zero experience with any sort of development, and i see RPGM games catch so much hate, is RPGM more limited than the others? or is it just because like you said its so accessible a lot of garbage gets made on it and gives it a bad name. because i have played some really nice RPGM games but agree there is a lot of garbage you have to sift through. Renpy i know is a popular one for consumers but are there is it really better on the developer side?

To be fair, there's a lot that you can do with any game engine, but RPGM does push you into it's standard turn-based combat/Character level ups formula, and that part is just incredibly mediocre. It's `ok` at best, but if literally every game uses it it loses any appeal it has. If you dont want to deal with that you have to develop it from the ground up.

thanks for the clarification gives me a whole new appreciation for the well made ones like summer memories or treasure of nadia.

RPGM is the worst engine, although there is some good games in it

I think it's called TWINE, it's that real old engine that makes text based games but badly. I'm sure it was great for the time but when I see people make new games with it, I just wonder why

The gameplay in RPGM feels so slow and the animations are clearly outdated, with exceptions like Daily Lives of My Countryside. And Unity It's not entirely to my liking, but there's more creative freedom.

RPGM, I'll never play one of those games.

I'll only download if I like the look of the images, and then I'll just go into the game folder to access the images directly and ignore the game entirely.

i think it's pretty clear everybody hates RPGM, but are there any other engines that aren't good?
