my thoughts on the issue is that :
1. some people prefer to jump straight into the action and not bother with the story.
assuming the above, a dev might not bother writing a detailed story - and therefore stick to the same basic tropes because it's quicker and easier to produce, and make your fans happy.
2. it takes time and effort to create a high quality story, setting, and characters. Some devs may not be willing to invest the time, effort, or even the money, into creating a product which might not even provide any sort of return on said investments.
3. Low effort cash grabs using default models + the same generic story tropes = quick and easy production, and easy money.
4. Devs are not award winning writers. while some can write something decent, i don't expect them to be novelists, have perfect grammar, or even speak English for that matter.
5. Experience and skill. Some devs are still learning. while it shouldn't be an excuse to push out a poor product, i do acknowledge and respect that most devs are trying - they're only capable of so much on their own.
6. As stated by my fellow lurkers, there are limitations to the assets, software, and hardware that people have access to.
so its a combination of many factors that has lead to this situation. just my 2 cents.
