What sort of game idea do you think has been done to death? What genre do we need more of?

Everybody has a favorite game, and everybody has a favorite genre of lewd game. I for one am tired of the old formula of a son/brother living with mom, older sister, and younger sister. Adding whatever sort of spin on it, like you came back after college, or dad died and now you live with mom you haven’t seen in years, or whatever.

There are plenty of other ideas out there, why does every other game use this tired old formula?

I'd argue that you can't really define "genre that needs to be done more" since you can only categorize stuff if it's already been done too much.

One idea I have is a game where MC is a girls volleyball team or dance team coach. Plenty of ways to go with that, you could go through the entire season, working with girls individually after practice and either corrupt them or romance them. Corruption route you could have the girls sabotage the other team, steal their uniforms or injure the star player whatever.

With a large group of girls you could have all sorts of different stories. Jealousy between the girls, a girl having problems with a boyfriend, one of them could be a curious lesbian, or the coaches assistant could be the non athletic quiet type that you help come out of her shell.

Like you said, story pretty much writes itself. If you really wanted to scratch the incest itch, have a couple of twin sisters on the team.

Games like Harem Hotel and the Headmaster follow this formula, and they are quite popular. Give me more like that!

Female protagonist is something else we don’t see very often. Too bad I don’t know a damn thing about coding a game, or rendering images

Keep in mind that anything that is even remotely unique requires a lot more work put into it. Not so much for the story, though you'd need someone creative enough to come up with the idea and articulate it well. One reason people copy the old tropes is because they do write themselves.

Most creators aren't going to put money or huge effort into something unless they are absolutely sure it can make them some money. Why bother with anything different?

Making two protags means making two games. If you think waiting for one game takes too long, double it at the very least.

Not necessarily, do most of the game from a POV perspective, and that would save on a lot of the render time. There will be some dialogue changes between the two, but I don’t think it would double the time between releases.

This is a loaded question. Part of the answer will be determined by the individual responding. For me all of the more vanilla games are just that, vanilla - nothing new just the same old, same old. Of course there comes a point where whatever you choose someone will make some derogatory comment or at least imply that it is not worth the time. Putting another way: If a developer wants to make money then it must be more mainstream, so from a developer's perspective something less popular as genre's go would not be a worthwhile consideration.

I guess for me, corruption/blackmail style games with female protagonists where the MC ACTUALLY has a choice not to become a walking sperm bank, although with consequences that place them in a moral dilemma that pushes them toward the more lewd choice.

Exactly! Done to death! There are a few good ones that follow this formula, but far too many new games, I read the brief description, and that’s exactly what it is. Check back a few months later, and they made it to version 0.02 and abandoned it. Reason being, it is hard to stand out when you are just trying to blend in with the rest of the crowd

Cant agree its done to death because there are not many great games with perfect implementation of this concept, especially not abandoned.

You can't swing a dead cat without hitting a "school", "camp" or "island" VN - especially school. I get it - they all lend themselves well to harems and some of them are better for overcoming "taboos" since they remove you from society. Wouldn't mind more fantasy or period setting stuff - not that there aren't any, but some that are better done and using Daz3D or well done HS2 instead of the older tech.

Agreed. There are some great games set in medieval times, that get in to the fantasy dungeon and dragon type story, and some of them are great.

Something I have not come across yet is an old west type setting, that could be a great idea. Play as a traveling outlaw, gamble in the saloons, visit brothels, seduce some rancher’s daughter, or meet a calamity Jane type character, and you rob banks together.

Done to death? Mommyfucker games, in all their iterations. Especially the ones where dad is out of the picture, older sister hates the MC, younger sister loves him but mommy and both sisters end up falling under the spell of the magic mega-dick no matter what. More generally, any game with a high school or college-aged MC.

Need more of? Daughterfucker games, in all their iterations. By all means, keep the mom around and participating like in Rational Chaos. More generally, any game with an MC who is an actual grown adult and not a dumbass kid.

Done to death - School/college theme. This is especially true to games that use Koikatsu or Honey Select assets/visuals. Like, I get it... The assets for those are limited, but at least be creative with your story and not just the 'done-to-death MC is a student and has a harem of teachers and students'! You can almost always distinguish lazy and/or quick cash grabs from genuine good and thought-out Koikatsu-based games if you see the majority of scenes and assets are from that damn default school map.

You'd be surprised with how many devs shy away from making FFM scenes in their game despite a ton of them being 'harem' games, and when they do FFM scenes, it's almost always the girls just munching exclusively on the MC! Give me some girl-on-girl action as well, Dev! You've already given me this FFM scene!!! Just make the girls kiss or whatever! Fuck me!

Probably because, strange as it may seem, a lot of harem lovers strongly dislike girl-on-girl scenes. Their view is that all LIs should be exclusively attracted to the protagonist and should need nothing other than his magic dick to make them happy and completely fulfilled in all ways. For them, LIs touching each other is tantamount to NTR and must be avoided at all costs.

I know; I don't get it either. But to each their own.
