I don't necessarily mean your favorite movie, but what is something that people should watch at least once in their life? Could be because it is of great significance to the film industry, was the first of a specific subgenre that has now become a trope, or whatever other reason.

I'll start with Citizen Kane. It used cinematography that brought deep focus into mainstream films, and was an unabashed dive into American capitalism that hadn't been done as well previously (though I might have forgotten something earlier than this lol.)

What do you all suggest?

The Princess Bride. It has fencing, fighting, captures, escapes, true love... what's not to like?
Aliens. This movie has the delicate balance between action, horror, and the best of sci fi. Genius really.

Have you read the graphic novel? Alan Moore. His books are typically a LOT better than the film adaptations.
