You need both and a mix to get a good AVN. I prefer 75% story to 25% sex or 50/50, but just straight-up sex scenes with no story are boring to me.

Gonzo porn is popular for those who just wanna jack off. but most people aren't interested in just jerking off. They're bored, and want something entertaining.

Also, i think it's obvious to most self-aware people that we're really just looking for some semblance of intimacy, and that having a compelling story helps people connect to a character or a story makes it easier to get lost and even enjoy the fantasy.

This is also primarily why most people dislike NTR. If I'm already deluding myself that I'm in this story and that I have 1 (or more) partner(s), why on Earth would I fantasize about being cheated on by them? I wouldn't choose that.

but this is also why people also enjoy Slave and love routes in games. so long as the choice is there, and you can play the power fantasy, or play the love route. chances are that the power fantasy will probably have an aspect of the darker stuff most people don't wanna think about.

we don't get any of this with just sex. there are no choices. you just let it play out like a movie.
