What do you guys think about "parody" games?

most of them are bad, specially the AI ones. Some are good tho, like

Attack on Survey Corps

if the game have good history, and animation i can enjoy them but if the game are simple for example text based with a simple and generic history that have noting to do with the original series and too much grind, it hard like them

This pretty much sums it all up for me.
Your post, with quotes, says it all. I've never seen ANY "Buffy" or "Morty" but I thoroughly enjoyed "Call of the Siren" & the original "Rick & Morty: Another Way Home" (Haven't tried the Ren'py version).

That said, I'm sure I would have enjoyed them MORE if I understood the source material.

The GOATs honestly
Princess Trainer, Silver Trainer, Four Elements Trainer, Something Unlimited.
Good parody games are some of the best out there.

they can be good if effort is put into the story/mechanics, but not if its just a generic ai copy paste slop with IP skin on it

I think a lot of parody games are pretty sub-par koikatsu models with default animations. The ones that actually emulate the main series artstyles are the ones that I tend to enjoy.

I freaking love these things.

Even if it's poorly done, maybe more if it's poorly done. They keep me entertained on multiple levels.

If the artists and devs are honest-to-goodness nerds, it can be heavenly. Otherwise it feels like a cheap imitation of the source material.

Kinda cringey. It's fine if I don't know/care about the original. But even then you can sometimes feel how the dev lusts over the characters which is gross. The only decent parody game that comes to mind is Witch Trainer or just all Akabur games in general, I think it's because the characters don't resemble the ones they supposed to be parodying at all, feels more like Akabur's original characters cosplaying them

Not against them but they usually do end up cringe worthy as people have stated. I think Goblin Layer is an example of parody done right.

Im all for it, specially Naruto and One piece for me. gimme some more Boa Hancock and Tsunade games !! Female version of Orochimaru too lol

I think parody games are nice because much of the world building is already there so it's easy to get in to the story.
