What do you guys think about "parody" games?

probably been said earlier but Akabur's parodies are great. the characters are all exaggerated sexualised versions of themselves. they dont really try to replicate any story from the source material so the games don't lose any fun by shittily re-treading the plot

The good ones are awesome. Very fun to jump into an already existing verse and get freaky. 🥰

Honestly just depends on how much I liked the original media. But there are some pretty good parody games out there.

If by parody you mean like R34 games then I love them.

No need for long buildup story's because you already know the character and her backstory.

And we all know we fantasized about certain cartoon characters when we were growing up

I actively avoid them, even if they are received well.

I play a game to "roleplay" as the MC.
So i also avoid games where the MC is a doucebag, another ethnicity than mine or female.

I'd love for someone to make a "Brady Bunch" game
Ditto, as one of the brothers, or a generic dude. I would doink all 3 Brady girls!!!

Edit: all 4 Brady girls. Musn't leave out Momma Brady.

I like the parody as much as it has benefits and tells different things from the original.

like them when the x stuff has a good story for it i am more hard to please when it involve my best waifu r34 ;p

If it is made good enough so why not, even better if you like original.

Parody games are like any other games IMO. The only benefit is that you have an already established setting and characters. On one point, you can take advantage of it and utilize/expand these a lot. But the downside is that you can also easily break the characters and setting by stretching them out too much. A good developer makes it an advantage, a bad one misses the point entirely.

Usually not my type of stuff. But that Rick & Morty game was awesome

I think there are some great games there.

What do you guys think?
if they can stick to the artstyle of the original work they're parodying, at least to an extent, I'm quite happy with them (something unlimited, four elements trainer, 18titans, Roguelike evolution). I don't particularly like 3d parodies, or hand drawn ones that don't stick to the established look at all, and I'm especially not a fan of multiversal ones (i.e a bunch of different girls from series picked at random thrown together into a harem somehow). I've also found certain series' parodies to just, tend to be rather low production value or just plain bad theming (i.e dragon ball and its ugly bastard roshi/oolong games or divine adventure and how generally poorly built it is) which makes me want to avoid ones based on certain series entirely.

I like games that have parody but it's a shame that most of them are abandoned and almost never completed.

Depends what you mean by parody. Four Elements Trainer for example has a special place in my heart and I think it's a great game but they're plenty if not most others in similar veins which I think just fall flat. Something like In A Scent though? THAT kind of parody is something I love, arguably bit more subtle and much harder to pull off but I think can work so well when achieved.

I can't remember any decent one. Could you give some examples?
Off the top of my head the only one I can remember is the Pokemon parody Rick and Morty did like ten years ago.

I like parody games. It's exciting to be able to fuck characters known from fairy tales and movies

I unironically only know the story of Dune from playing that Behind the Dune porn game.
But overall I like Parody because of the pre-existing characters are already interesting, a game or manga with a mom getting fucked is so-so but make that mom Chun-Li and even if it's 100% the same manga, it has a lot more chance I'll enjoy it.

A good parody game to me doesn't require you to have knowledge of the existing materiel to enjoy the game, references are fine but if the whole game needs a complete understanding of the original then I'm more likely to drop it.

its pretty good if the characters are accurate in terms of personality.

Parody games are good when the author understands the source material. Mity is an example I would use, their knowledge of avatar allows them great writing that's genuinely engaging while also have sexy times

Problem is that most parody games are not well done at all. Parody games should have parallels to the actual story somehow, thats what make a parody unique after all.
Four Element Trainer is the best example for a good Parody game.

This pretty much sums it all up for me. I loved Four Elements Trainer and was so sad when I reached the end of the game, yet so happy that I got to play it. The game is clearly a labour of love, well written and has good story arcs.
Granted I rewatched the Avatar recently but I feel that I could enjoy the game even without ever having watched the series.

Another good parody game I've played (that has been mentioned already in the thread) was Rick & Morty: Another Way Home Ren'py fan remake by Night Mirror.

In the other end of the field we have the games that throw a bunch of characters from an anime show or shows with minimal setup or regard to their personalities, rely solely on the player's supposed immense knowledge of the most esoteric minute details of the world or go the route of tell don't show massive info dump in the beginning of the game.
