I know this can be very subjective depending on what you follow, what communities you interact with, and with what content you want.
But ever since I started following AVN games and developers since roughly 2021 I feel like 2024 was just marred with issues and weak releases.

I won't get too much into detail about the entire Patreon thing but between that and a lot of games pushing to censor themselves to get on Steam it just dropped the overall quality of a lot of the games I support/supported.
Many games I liked started pushing very long development times seemingly out of nowhere too and few games improved in any notable area.
I don't feel like I found as many new releases either since everything felt more and more like a quick cashgrab with the super fancy renders that got pushed recently but very little to no actual content or writing present.
It was not all bad of course and some developers did deliver on their usual quality and content but it felt few and far between.

I would love to hear your guys opinion on this as many of the communities I followed became very hostile due to most of the things I just mentioned.

Feel free to rant too!

City of Broken Dreamers,Midnight Paradise,Betrayed,Chasing Sunsets,Sexbot,Monster College....
I think that at least in terms of finished titles it has been good.

Well they abandoned some of my favorite games, looking at you Rightful Authority. So it wasn't a great year for AVNs

I hope they ended on their own terms and not rushed to be finished cause of the Patreon scare.
I know they are very highly regarded so I should probably play them now that they are finished.

Midnight Paradise have a rushed ending.
But the other ones no, City of Broken Dreamers is a very long-running game and for me top 10.

I dont think is what that great most of the games I enjoy hardly updated there was always an excuse

Not a bad year by any means, no. The games I follow all got pretty substantial updates and new games that I'm interested in were launched. All in all, a good year.

2024 was a bad year for the whole world, so... yeah I guess that includes AVNs.
That said, there's been good stuff coming out in 2024, and games that were already out got some great updates throughout the year.
So maybe it wasn't so bad for AVNs after all - they kept me sane for sure!

It's going to be very dependent on what you're invested in. If you're an avid Summertime Saga that truely belived that 2024 was going to be the year that the tech update finally released and DC would get back to regular releases then you could be bitterly disappointed.
On the other hand you could have found new games you enjoy that are getting regular releases or a dev back from a long hiatus that leaves you feeling that all is well. I think that enjoyment of AVNs is individual enough that we can only speak for ourselves

I feel like I had a very diversified portfolio but I still somehow ended up in this situation where most games had massive delays, super long dev times, or just straight up fumbled entirely with the updates they did release.
That is why I got so curious to if it was just a me thing or if the AVN side of things really did just take a massive hit 2024 with both interest and issues or if I just managed to single out the ones that did.

I'm honestly in a really bad position to judge because I save up updates of my favourites so I can crack them open when necessary. I've recenty been back to some games I was last up to date with a couple of years a go. That I had to dip into the vault may be an indication that the new stuff isn't hitting though

My favorite games largely sat dormant or were abandoned in 2024. So yes, a bad year.

It's true that the wait between updates have gotten worse which makes it almost feel like nothing even released in 2024. A bunch of games that I was looking forward to got abandoned while other mediocre games get by and are praised for being just "good enough." Unnecessary remakes to avn that did not need it still exists. Steam/patreon selling out is arguably the worst it's ever been. Bad year for avn when compared to 2020-2023. I would even say there were as many disappointing updates as good updates.

By the way, can anyone count how many games that started in 2024 that they care for or think will be successful?

While there was a lot of new releases in 2024 I don't think anything stuck with me that I would follow.
There were a few good demos but nothing that really stod out.
I would even wager I tried less games than ever cause of how bad and saturated the market got once majority of new titles had figured out how to push incredibly renders but gameplay and story was just not there.

Haha, I think it was a bad year for most Radiant fans, but there were quite a few good ones too.

Well that's not good news. I'm pretty new to AVNs, so I just came across it earlier this year. Guess I shoulda paced myself lol

The devs have failed to deliver on multiple occasions on several promises they made.
The latest update was supposed to drop back in August of 2024... It is now estimated to drop at the end of January but people are still skeptical about it.
And this was after the community collectively voted for them to make smaller updates so that content could finally get delivered.

There is a typical cliché that says: Everything was better in the old days. In the case of AVNs, I thought the same until I tried again the games I started with and with 1-2 exceptions they are no better than today. There are a couple of older game developers whose quality has deteriorated a lot (PinkCake), there are those who have remained at the level where they started (MrDots) and some who have improved (Caribdis). As for 2024, it is exactly the same for me as 2023, with the difference that the updates arrive even more slowly now.
