Was 2024 a bad year for AVN games?

There is a typical cliché that says: Everything was better in the old days. In the case of AVNs, I thought the same until I tried again the games I started with and with 1-2 exceptions they are no better than today. There are a couple of older game developers whose quality has deteriorated a lot (PinkCake), there are those who have remained at the level where they started (MrDots) and some who have improved (Caribdis). As for 2024, it is exactly the same for me as 2023, with the difference that the updates arrive even more slowly now.
While I don't think DrPinkCake has dropped in quality he has for sure increased his development time enough to make a lot of people lose interest in his title since he pushes a year plus for an update.
For me 2023 was at least decent enough when it came to updates and releases mostly because a lot of the devs dropped their updates at the end of the year to kinda "save it".
But this year so many pushed for longer update cycles or just delayed it enough that end of year only had maybe 2-3 strong releases.
Eternum and Pale Carnations are the 2 that instantly come to mind and Pale Carnations was literally days before New Years.

The devs have failed to deliver on multiple occasions on several promises they made.
The latest update was supposed to drop back in August of 2024... It is now estimated to drop at the end of January but people are still skeptical about it.
And this was after the community collectively voted for them to make smaller updates so that content could finally get delivered.
Yeah, smaller updates would be great. Otherwise I forget what's going on in the story by the time I play it again

I think a lot of games got some really good updates. A decent number of popular games actually got finished. Some new interesting games, but too early to tell if they actually go anywhere. On the other hand it was probably the worst year for games getting abandoned or devs going MIA. Along with growing internet censorship which affects more than just VNs but it still hit them pretty hard. Mixed year imo

Since that's when I found them, it was the year of the century lol.

Yes i do think it's been a bad year but that's more so because i feel we are seeing more games getting abandoned/drawn out (for both valid and non valid reasons).
However what I'm afraid of is certain types of people noticing the trend above and taking advantage of it.

Australia scared a lot of devs (worldwide, not just in Australia) into early retirement, so yeah, 2024 sucked for AVNs.

Not because this year I played more and had more games finished.

it's a mid range for me not great games came but not all are crap

It's been a meh year if you ask me. I think the best games have already been released, nd now they get updates. But I can't remeber the last time I find a new game that have been in the top drawer for me. Can't belive I found any of that during last year at least.

As long as my favorite games are not abandoned, there are no bad years

2023 was worse with the shit that started in Australia...

There was enough to play for me so it wasn't a bad year to me.
