good renders & looks like its going to work as a story but way too short as a demo.

It's an American thing, mostly, and yes, it's very similar to that kind of expression.

If you haven't heard it, it's likely just a product of a smaller range of media exposure. Its usage is a lot more common among younger people, women, and Tumblr.
