Chests are just props. You can buy weapons from merchants (there is one in starting desert, north of that desert and other places.) after you have gained money. You can find quests for money by talking to npcs around the starting area. Usually in communities (inside caves).

These are decent starting quest positions.

Use E to attack
Z action key
Find a bed and use action key to heal up. (Not all beds are usable)

I did see this one before, it felt disorienting from the videos and at the time worked only with default assets so I never checked it out truly. Could be something to look for in future. I wonder if it is capable of turning custom 2d sprite animations into 2.5d too.

No, it is ingame zone you get after certain amount of progress to replay all stuff you have done and see whats left etc. If you prefer to just check full open galleries immediately you can go to "movies" in the game folder.
