I find text-only stories generally utterly boring with no visuals to fap to. Instead of AVNs I could go to Literotica for that if I wanted to. My feelings are not hurt if some text-only story is not here.
As far as law, text-only is probably also not allowed if images aren't but in the US the only enforcable action path is the obscenity provision of the Protect Act, and good luck with that. The only cases of obscenity the gov't won in the past 25 years were due to picking their battles (mostly targets with low income so more likely to plea bargain, basically what a bully would do) or extreme cases where the stories got real kids killed like Mr. Double's since the stories were submitted by the killers themselves (also didn't help he had sex crime priors brought up during trial). In other words, people can make whatever cartoon they want with only that enforceable legal restriction (and even that is such an uphill struggle the gov't usualy won't even attempt it, if there's good odds it's going to trial, refuse to plea bargain and often they will simply drop the case). Every other effort by lawmakers ends up getting shot down if not by the Supreme Court due to 1st Amendment then some lower one on appeal, sometimes due to insane attempts by the prosecution to ignore the Miller Test (naturally denied due to 50-year precedent, even though mostly no one gives a shit about the MT anymore so the prosecution usually loses). At the end of the day fuck the gov't, these days if they take no money to follow people can upload whatever they want behind a logless VPN if a site will take it, which on that front eventually distributed hosting will be a thing (think torrent, but in reverse), so no single hosting company can be held legally responsible if what any single one does have isn't human-readable so they don't even know what they are partially hosting. If I were world dictator among other things the new law would be simple: don't like it then quit looking at it or reading it instead of complaining about it like a dumbass while continuing to look at it.
It depends. Some people (typically men) are more aroused by images, some others (typically women) by text. There is many countries, particularly in Europe where text about underage are allowed, but artificially made images aren't.
