alternate thread title: a lurkers 4am drunk sleep deprived manifesto on why porn tags suck now, and not in the good way.

i dont know if anyone else has noticed it, maybe im just going crazy, but porn tags like 10 years ago would help you find exactly what you were looking for but these days they seem half worthless for anything beyond driving traffic. (im not talking specifically about lewdcorner but about the internet in general) they are now by design made to cast the widest possible net, rather than narrow down what kinks you are looking for. multiple tags now have little meaning, or include things that can be the opposite of what you are looking for. for instance, when looking for incest you will often find works with zero actual incest but instead tons of pointless step siblings that frankly do nothing for anyone into the kink. the childhood friend is a closer relation than a blasted step sibling/mom. or the blasphemous futa/trans tag.... WHY ARE THOSE MERGED?!!!!?!? they are diametrically opposed things! a futa is a girl who happens to have a dick, they have BOTH functioning parts. trans is someone TRANSitioning to another gender the do not have genetically. a futa is NOT trans, nor is trans futa. but some insane person like 7 years ago now decided it was a good idea to merge the tags and the whole internet was like "yeah good idea" for some reason. traditionally the trans would be under the tag "newhalf" rather than futa. whoever first merged the tags should be stuffed in a burlap sack with at least a dozen angry cats. and then theres the worthless NTR tag, its got 3 completely different things under its umbrella. netorare is when some dude steals your girl, mc is not willing. netori is literally the oposite, you steal some dudes girl, some dude not willing. two LITERALY opposite things under the same tag....... then Netorase, is literally just the same as sharing, which already has its own blasted tag. also incompatible with netorare or netori, because the moment anyone gets "stolen" it ceases to be netorase, and becomes one of the other two. so why on earth are they all often under the same tag?! is it actually just to lure those ntr haters under every comment section there to whine and ironically drive more traffic there? yes because thats all tags are now. worthless traffic drivers and i hate it. its become a damn chore to find what i want now. and you have to sift through false positives, some with negative tags that dont actually apply, ive probably stumbled onto more misses than hits because of these blasted tags.

does this bother anyone else? has anyone else even noticed? do i need sleep? why does the rate of porn tag degradation seem to directly correlate to the percentage of scammer porn games milking poor gullible hopefuls for every penny?

The Futa/Trans thing bothers me the most, simply because as you stated, they are NOT the same.. Futa specifically is a fully functional woman with a fully functional penis.

But ye, when it comes to games specifically, I think it's never gonna get better. Because if a game contains 800 scenes, and 1 scene has.. whatever.. 2 girls kissing in it, you can give it the lesbian tag, even though the rest of the game you only have dicks thrown around in your face..

Tags....yeah they don't work as intended...just look at Steam. You'll narrow down games properly.

One specific tag gets you thousands of games your not interested in.

its just, i swear they used to work at one point in the internets history, and they were very specific. and after drinking all night and filled with the power of insomnia, the fact that they are useless now makes me rather upset. actually spent an hour cutting stuff out of that. wrote a full manifesto about this on a now defunct buooru and got banned. its been driving me insane since the first time i saw "futa/trans"

It's done because of consumerism. You're right. Tags are used to draw traffic, even if it's just one scene. There are a lot of games that have nearly every single tag available. There's no way they can put all of that into a game and have it represented enough to be worth searching for.

I'm all for a two-tier tag system. You have the "main" tags that will tell you the tags that are more than 50% of the game, or has some kind of threshold that it reaches to be considered a "main" tag.

Then you have a "side" tag. Is one of the characters you interact with trans-fem and you do get to have sex with them, but just once or twice? Side tag of 'trans'.

There should also be a lot more tags (like splitting NTR) to be more descriptive.

You are very correct about this water down process.

I'm curious if this is due to commercialization and attempting to get as as many customers as possible. Perhaps it is some nefarious plot to force vanilla users into seeing/sifting through the more extreme content to normalize it all? Could be either I suppose but I hope smaller sites like this one opt for better optimization instead of less.

ah, now there's thinking, its not entirely dissimilar to what VNDB does with tags. probably a solid step towards fixing this nonsense

I basically agree with you Corellius. I would also add a political element to all this. The lgbtqxyz lobby it's behind this. Conveys the message that gender transition is good and right. this is the reason why I hate games with trans/futa, gay, transformation ecc.

I'd love to be able to exclude watermelon sized ones, but just normal sized ones are also included in the tag. I'd love it to be separated like: flat, small, average, big, huge, and massive. And just list the two ends of the spectrum, like if a game had both small and massive, I might want to check it out. But that's apparently too much work for the mods. At least Lewd Corner has the small tits tag now, just waiting for the search function to catch up with you know who. (Which is now objectively better for non +members.)

ah yes, see, this is what im talking about, specificity, couple this with that tiered tags thing based on frequency of tag in available scenes, and we can move a step towards fixing this nonsense.

What I can tell you is that such a thing would be a massive headache to implement. I'm sure it's why it hasn't been done before. It's a fairly easy thing to think up.

First, you have to build it on the back. I'm not sure what it takes to put together a tag system, much less a tiered one, for a forum/website. I know a certain other adult game forum has been working on a system to simply expand the tags -- spread NTR into its different tags, etc. It's been in progress for a few years now.

Second, you have to figure out who gives out the tags and what the criteria are. It's usually up to either the dev or the uploader, and then checked by players that aren't lurkers and willing to report. The issue of over-tagging would then again happen because the dev is going to want as much traffic as possible.

I suppose most devs/uploaders would be mainly truthful, and it could be better than any current system, but it's a matter of structuring, coding, testing, and reporting when forums like LC and others struggle to remain open due to constant attacks and growing costs. The forum mods/owners likely have much more to worry about than a half-working tag system.

hmmm, thats a good point. personally i think VNDB is probably a good base, under everything you can see relative frequency of tag, and every tag links directly to its definition. so it can be done.
as for tags themselves. im all in for specificity, more tags available to sift out everything you want and don't want the better.

VNDB is a good resource. It's also been built out that way from the beginning, and it relies on players/critics to put in the information. For the sheer amount of information that needs to be accumulated, it's a solid structure.

is that your experience with adult game sites? im jealous, ive had the opposite. have to sift through all manner of false tags before finding something that i actually wanted. probably has something to do with the tags im actually looking for, but the tags for them are some of the most degraded and thus worthless. makes it a chore to find what i want.

Honestly the NTR tags is the most annoying. It really does need to be made into its own 3 separate catagories, but at the same time are the people making the posts going to use those seperate tags?

NTR is prob the most offensive one as you always get the people under it "ew ntr" or "is it avoidable?" The 2nd one is more understandable but the first I gotta ask "why are you even here under a game with NTR in the tag if you hate NTR?"

I don't play adult games long enough to notice a change, but long enough to notice the tags have much more games than should be, like you have 1 lesbian kiss in the whole game and is tagged as lesbian. It's annoying because you get fooled sometimes.
