It's not only lazyness.
Making a new thread gives coins, even if only a bit more than a regular post. Reason enough for many users to do this, even if there are plenty of existing threads of that topic already.
You can see so many threads where the OP asked a question and never replied again, because posting in your own thread doesn't give you coins.

So hottakes just for the gist of it, to get as much response as possible.
And after they obtain member+ they don't post anything at all.

It's a nice way to try get people active in the first place, but not enough to stay after obtaining member+ i guess.

Well, if a thread topic already exists, the new one usually gets merged in the old one and thus the fake effort is lost anyway.

And after they obtain member+ they don't post anything at all.

The typical "back to being a lurker".

It's a nice way to try get people active in the first place, but not enough to stay after obtaining member+ i guess.

The main reason for the system is to have an extra hurdle agains malicious people.
And while the majority won't post anything ever again, a good chunk does stick with posting, which they would not have done if they had not been forced to.

That all depends on the individual, some of us like collecting trinkets and to collect all the trinkets you need coins. I could have gave up making posts in April 2024 when I was given M+ for free after making 35 posts, but I decided to go for all the trinkets.

Permanent, yes, once you buy it won't expire
