I can only ever get MTOOL to work; all the others I have used didn't work

I've had the best luck using LM Studio with a Claude-coded script that uses the loaded local model to translate whatever file you give it. Takes a while but the results are better compared to google translate or other non-AI translation (since it understands context and can localize instead of just directly translating)... and it's uncensored. Works best with anything that has the text saved in a file like Ren'Py, System-NNN (even if I haven't been able to get it to work in the actual game), or RPGM. If you can't do that or can accept worse results, then MTool is probably the best bet.

If any of your games are made in Godot, try GameGlot — most tools (MTool, Translator++, the Ren'Py ones) don't handle Godot at all.

It works with Godot 3/4 (.pck and single-exe builds) and Ren'Py 6–8: pick the game's .exe, pick a language, it builds a translated copy. Pictures in phone chats stay in place and it swaps fonts that don't have your language's letters.

Free version translates the beginning of each game (300 lines), so you can check it on your game first:

Disclosure: I'm the developer. If a game doesn't work, tell me which one — I'm collecting Godot test cases.
