Hello im new to this site, I play all these games in linux, and wondering if there any linux users here with me?

I'm also planing to translate some Japanese games, but translating windows games in linux is buggy, but will figure it out one way or the other.

what about you people, do you use windows or linux( and why do you use it?)

Very much so. I went full linux (even though they say you should never go full linux) about 15 years ago but was forced to go back to windows for some work and game related shit. I still use linux a lot at work, (im a linux systems engineer) and at home, but thankfully WSL gives me a nice little "bit-o-linux" without having to dualboot. Not quite good enough but I can still deal with my games, and work related apps without having to reboot all the time.

My question is why is translating games harder in linux than windows? Specific apps you are using? cant use a vm or something just for that app? I use CLI apps for most shit I do, and while I dont translate, I often unpack games (renpy, rpgm, etc) and modify the scripts in bash using awk, sed, nano, etc. If you are talking about unreal or other engines where you might need to edit a dll, I guess I can see an issue there.

Linux is pretty good at running VMs, so I imagine you can find a solution with that. Run a small windows VM and give it access to your linux filesystem. Spin it up and either use the console or RDP into it and run the app to extract data. Then you can translate through linux where you are comfortable, and maybe need to go back into the VM to re-package the translated files (assuming here, Ive never used that app)

I do run a Windows VM, but it doesn't feel right, especially with Windows invasive approach to privacy. I obviously don't use a Microsoft account, but I'm trying to find a native Linux solution for the future. I want to avoid dealing with Microsoft's bullsh!t whenever possible

Well... bad news for you, this is pretty specific stuff, so the chance of finding it already made is not likely. Which means that you will likely have to make your own tool to extract and pull the text data, translate it, and put it back. Or pay someone to make it. I havent seen anything that does this with a linux version.

I once tried to use an old distro of linux like Debian and linux mint for a while only to find out that most program that I use can only be run on Windows
I try to use Wine first and make a habit of it, and decided that it is too much a chore for me, so yeah there it is and here I am

but now i use WSL 2.0 on windows in order to use debian OS...
