What kind of games do you like or avoid? This is a question about the game style itself and not the genre. Like if you wanted to build a game yourself, what would you use? What game engines would you prefer: Ren'Py, Unity, Unreal? What kind of art would you use: 3dcg, AI-cg, Hand-drawn? How would you do the story structure: multiple endings, visual novel, FPS, side-scroller? Would you have animations in VAM? Basically, how would you make your ideal game?
I'm also wondering what are instant deal breakers on a game even if it has your favorite tags in it.

I'm a fan of sandbox if they're done right (few are). Repeatable content with variations based on character stats is fun. The Headmaster, for example.

Generally, I only avoid games based on undesirable fetishes, so the option to avoid certain content is always appreciated.

The game engine doesn't matter for me. I prefer 3DCG over AI or hand-drawn because I like the consistency in models.

I prefer Renpy with DAZ. Not saying there arent good ones, but I would not have a sandbox game. I would have probably keep the branching to different endings down to 3-4 max. Anything more and the Dev tends to lose it (both the plot and their mental health). Dialogue is important, but so many Devs have the characters take an hour what they can say in 2-3 minutes. Ease up on grind. Progression doesn't have to be breakneck, but if I am spending a month just to touch a LI, you are making me work too hard. I understand, particularly with DAZ, you might be limited with assets, but lets not use the ugliest hair styles on the LIs. I would rather see a style repeated than see "beautician's first day" look. I might me digging too deep here, but sometimes it's the little things that can take me out of what would be a good game otherwise,

I really like simulations or games with procedural content, but recently I've just been doing generative AI text adventures of a lewd kind.

I prefer ren'py since it works on linux flawlessly, with a story but with a good pace to make me feel that I'm progressing, preferably with some choices and branches but not much to make complicated,
whichever art style is fine by me except the ai; not all ai art just the ones that has the ai look to them.

So far it's a weird looking MC.

i like interactive games with goodstorytelling. as for artstyle i avoid games with ai art and poorly done hand drawn art with the sole exception of "a moms life"

Outside of the content and tags, I tend to avoid any sort of game that requires you to level up stats by grinding the same thing over and over. Sandbox games tend to do this a lot.

"You don't have enough LOVE points to do that yet! (20)."

"You gave SARAH a FLOWER. (+1 LOVE)"

"You can only give one item per day."

Then you have to sleep, go to work for $50 in the AM, go buy the flower for $25 in the afternoon, give SARAH the flower in the evening, go to bed, repeat 20x.

It's just a grind and it's exhausting. There's legitimately no good reason for it that I can think of. It's just lazy game design. There's no content to speak of. Just the grind.

For games? Mostly AI, but I do avoid cuckold stuff. if I am playing a game I would like to only see myself (the main character) doing the fucking not watching another guy fuck a girl.

I appreciate all the responses! I'm toying with the idea of attempting a game myself butI have no clue where to begin. I'm not even to the youtube tutorial stage of coding for idiots yet.

Hand drawn is out for me, I don't have the time. For visuals there seems to be a lean towards DAZ and 3DCG. AI is hit or miss / unreliable. I don't have any illusions of making a career out of smut so time and effort in generating visual content needs to be efficient/ minimal. I've seen VAM used with really good effect. I think that's what Goosenards uses and I enjoy those.

I agree completely about the story. Meaningless, mechanical sex pales next to some psycho-sexual brain fuckery that follows a lead character's decadent descent into debauchery and deviance. Alliteration FTW. Also, the characters have to have some character. Flaws and directives that guide their movements like an emotional filter that their world has to be viewed through.

Sandbox seems like too much work. Multiple endings seems like too much work. Choices to adapt the story to the player's kinks seems the way to go. Time travel is always bullshit and makes me irrationally angry.

Ren'Py seems solid.

Anyone have advice and what threads to pickup first?

I'm also game for any storyline hooks to get started.

DAZ/3DCG all the way and like you say, a journey that allows you to follow a character down a path with choices that make sense is the way to go.

I don't necessarily avoid it per-se, but I enjoy the "solo" type of stuff where it just involves one girl and no other guy, or at least the guy has to be faceless

I prefer sandbox/sim games. I only say that cause those are usually the ones that keep my attention cause i end up just enjoying the management aspects of those games and kind of lose sight of the original intent on playing them . that being said if the vn is good ill enjoy it.

most htmls, AI, or just any game that uses real imagery in any given game.

Don't get me wrong, I love text-based when it's good, but AI and real imaging just feel like placeholders that say "I'll try to help you use your imagination kind of." It's just really off-putting.

I prefer hand drawn though I don't think I've "awful" art, bad sure, but as long as it's a specific fetish then I can overlook a lot. 3DCG is harder to sell to me for some reason. For game genre's any is fine really though I think I avoid side scrollers and long rpg games can be particularly difficult to finish. I haven't seen a porn FPS game though that kind of sounds fun.

i prefer a game with good art, not matter if its 3dcg, AI-cg, Hand-drawn, or pixel, if the art is good and consistent with a good history and have multi ending im fine, i prefer avoid games that have to much grinding and few scenes or dont have much content

I never download:
1. Any games based on Unreal Engine. The reason is their disgusting optimization due to the crookedness of the developers. As a result, some amateur project consumes resources (memory, both CPU fnd GPU usage) no less, if not more, than AAA games.
2. All, absolutely all games with Japanese graphics. I hate her fiercely, and this applies to HS and HS2. This applies not only to games, comics and anime, but also to Japanese visual art in general. At the same time, I admire Japanese poetry.
I'm more than tolerant of everything else. I'm comfortable with using AI graphics, for example. The main thing is gameplay and an interesting plot, the rest is secondary.
