It's sad to see these games end, but at least we have them. They are awesome, and I'm glad we got to enjoy all we have while they lasted.

I get he has had problems with the legality of the content he has produced so far but simply abandoning a game this far in, that has generated so much money is a horrible move.
I had been a supporter for a while and now i once again have another unfinished game that i paid for in good faith, for me it doesn't matter what he does in the future, he wont every get another penny from me.
A better move would have been to start a fresh game from the point such-a-sharp-pain ended with aged up characters so the story can continue.

Depends, SSP and "Mainstream" games don't exactly have the same target audience. Sure, there is some overlap, but the potential audience for a new mainstream endeavor is orders of magnitude larger than the SSP fans that *might* be upset. With the ongoing pressure from the CC companies, he was looking at, best case, diminishing returns for any ongoing effort. With that in mind, it's smart for him to get out now. And even an aged up version / sequel of SSP has problems... CC companies are already targeting incest content. I don't like it, but the truth is that if he's to continue at all, moving on from SSP is in his best interest.

I don't think that (most) devs understand that, while we, as supporters, know that there is a risk that a game won't be finished, we aren't supporting them just to be along for the ride. We're doing it, and often spending far more than we would for a finished product, because we want to see a project completed. I almost don't want to support any non-mainstream games anymore given the heightened risk of abandonment.

It's not even about legality, he moved to a country where creating that type of content is ok. The problem is payment processors and platforms censoring that type of content. Even if he decided to do a time skip and age up the characters he would still end up being in trouble with those platforms. Look at the dev of family faring for example. He remade the whole game, aged up the characters, showed the new designs to the staff on SS, they approved it and they still keep shadowbanning his page.
I get that it sucks to support a game and then see it being abandoned. But this is just one of those situations where the dev doesn't really have much of a choice.
Do you think that he is happy with losing all of his income and having to start from 0 again?

I was part of a game dev team like this before. Ultimately what things are going to look like is mainstream games for money if possible. And unmonetizable games for fun and to give back to the community under a different name with no expectation of getting anything out of it. Even that will be risky but it's the best we can hope for.
